Black powder loads in modern handguns.

I?ve been loading for my .480 Ruger and was thinking it might be fun to load up some black powder rounds for grins and giggles.
32 grains of H110 pretty much fills up the case below a 275 gr. jacketed bullet.
Would and equivalent volume of BP be enough to propel the same bullet to a reasonably acceptable velocity?

    I have done it a number of times in a SW 19 and 686. Leaves a mess to clean, but shot quite well. I would not recommend its use for indoor ranges, especially if there are smoke detectors present.

    BP is too weak to cycle in most pistols.

    One person I shoot with was always complaining about having to clean his guns. Somehow a few BP rounds found their way into his revolver[:D]

    Blackhorn 209 powder has some loads listed for modern cartridges. Might look into that, too.

    I used to do a lot of black powder shooting of a wide variety of old black powder cartridges. My standard load for each was simply fill the case totally full with black powder (dipped in not dribbled) then load the bullet thus compressing the powder.

    In our local club steel target competition, I once used a bunch of BP loads in my M29 .44 magnum. I made sure to save them until I was upwind of my competitor. [:D][:D] It distracted the heck out of him. Victory is sweet. [;)][:D]

    +1 Shoot cast and no gas checks required, usually subsonic, and no BP mess to clean out. No chance of over pressure with a compressed load. Pretty much dummy proof.

    Fun in rifle cartridges too. Cast lead 30 cal in a 30-30 is a blast same with 45-70 in a trapdoor.
