Here is a huge win
More powerful and good for the environment!

Scientists are working to develop a new type of 'superexplosive' that could soon replace the long-standing and highly toxic compound, TNT.
The US Army Research Lab has teamed up with researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory to create TNT?s successor using a new ?melt-cast? material.
In a major breakthrough, the researchers have developed a high-nitrogen explosive compound that?s said to be 1.5 times more powerful than TNT, yet less harmful to the environment.
The research comes as part of the Joint Munitions Program in effort to find a TNT replacement, explains David Chavez, an explosives chemist at Los Alamos, who has been researching compounds with low explosive sensitivity and good environmental properties for decades.
?Something with non- or low-toxicity that has the right melting point so it can be liquefied and cast, for use in a variety of munitions,? Chavez said.
To meet these goals, the researchers developed a material called bis-oxadiazole.
The 24-atom molecule is high in nitrogen and far outperforms TNT (Trinitrotoluene).
The key is to get a high yield out of the synthesis process, the researchers explain.
While experiments at first only produced a 4 percent yield ? which is impractical and not cost effective ? they eventually achieved a yield of 44 percent.
This boosted performance makes the new molecule?s performance 1.5 times greater than TNT, according to the researchers.
So it is about as powerful as C-4
Dynamite and C4 are close in explosive effects but C-4 has more Brisance. TNT's RE Factor is 1 where C-4 has an RE factor of 1.34.
In comparison to TNT, the typical military reference explosive, Nobels Dynamite (75% NG + 23% Kieselgur) is equivalent to 1.50 times TNT with a detonation velocity of 7300 m/s.
C-4 (91% RDX) has a TNT equivalency of 1.59 with detonation velocity of 8040 m/s.
The real difference is in their sensitivity to heat, shock, and friction. C-4 is very insensitive while dynamite is relatively sensitive to all three.

Yeah, because when I think of TNT, my first thought is, "but what about the environment".[:o)][:o)] 0 -
Come on MrP, I figured in WA all folks thought of was the environment, watching whales and picking mushrooms[;)] 0
