Billy Jack Festival on AMC

It was on last night. Believe it or not there are four films in the Billy Jack series.

The first one was "Born Losers" a low budget film about scum motorcycle gangs raping innocent coeds. And this half Indian guy comes in and rescues the girl. He was using some kind of milsurp bolt rifle. That was 1967.
I saw that at the drive in when it came out, with three buddies.

I got home last night in time to see the credits of that film.

So I lit up the wood stove, popped a Budweiser and sat down to watch Billy Jack. This came out in 1971.
Good Lord what a dumb-ass movie. The plot, the direction, the acting, all bad. I did't last an hour and it is a 2 1/2 hour movie.
The only good scene is when Billy Jack fights a dozen rednecks in the town park, thank God, that happened in the first half hour. That is a pretty good scene.
Tom Laughlin is pretty good as an actor in this film but nobody else is. His co star, who was his wife in real life, is really a bad actor.

There were two more Billy Jack movies playing late late into the night, I know one is named "Billy Jack Goes to Washington" I know I didn't try to watch that I have heard that it is a real dog.

    Never really could stomach those really bad movies !

    Lots of really bad movies out there !

    I remember @ the 'drive-in' watching :" Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster " ??? Really bad !!! This film was ranked #7 in the 2004 DVD documentary The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made !!!

    Ya Allen but ya just gotta get into the music of "Billy Jack"!! "One Tin Soldier Rides Away" [:D] You'll never hear that stuff at a rock concert!

    My favorite part of that one was where he told the spoiled rich kid that he was going to slap him in the face with his foot. And then he did!

    Most of the Drive In movies I went to see, were not for watching the movie anyway!![}:)]
    All of the steam and condensation on the windshield prevented a clear picture.[:0]

    Did you see the scene where he has to be bitten by a rattlesnake as part of his vision quest? Has visions while he fights to overcome the venom in a couple of hours. Like the rest of the movie it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. I did like One Tin Soldier by Coven though.

    Very true : But I was talking bout being a KID with my parents , going to the 'drive-in' once ever two weeks @ the Egyptian Drive In : It had the largest out-door screen in the U.S when it was open ?

    I saw a little of 1967 Born Losers on TCM Last night.
    I had no Idea there was a pre-quel to the 1971 Billie Jack!!

    I remember watching the first one at the drive in , shoots th ebiker between the eyes his glasses split and fly off

    another maybe a sequel ? the girl at the lake he told to put her clothes on . she ask are you gong to look ,, he said yes I am [:D]

    If I remember Tom L. made the movies on his own dime ?

    Yeah that was in Billy Jack, the spoiled rich kid made the stacked girl take off her blouse, and her bra, while he held a big knife to her chest. She was really stacked.
    Then Billy Jack came up, was going to beat the rich kid's ass, told the girl to grab her blouse, which had been sliced up by the knife, and run off.
    And she said "Will you look?" And Billy Jack said "Yes I will."

    Come to think of it I said there was only one good scene but that was a pretty good scene.

    Yes HeDog they were throwing in all this Indian mysticism and they said there would be a ceremony where Billy Jack would be bitten by a rattlesnake, I wanted to see that scene but didn't make it. I did see one scene where Billy Jack was dressed up as an Indian medicine man with a nice white buffalo coat.

    Tom Laughlin financed and directed all four films. He made a lot of money from Billy Jack.

    A few months ago I was watching some dumb beach boy movie from 1958, Gidget something. They had a bunch of guys hanging around on the California beach in swim suits, Tom Laughlin was one of those guys.
    Also Cliff Robertson was playing a beach boy.

    My late uncle Jack was the script supervisor on Billy Jack. I guess you took whatever work came along when you worked in that field. He was also the script supervisor on the TV show CHiPs, and on all the TV series Route 66, among other things.

    Great movie and I love the song: "One Tin Soldier"


    For some reason I really like "Peace" songs from the 60's and 70's, I guess its because that is when I grew up.


    I swear there is nothing better than listening to a peace song, like Peace Train, while a M2 50 cal is laying down some scunion in the background on a bunch of stinking haji's and your aiming your 203 at a group hiding behind a small wall where they think they are safe[;)]

    OH yea!!...........Nothing better[:0]
