Story about my first gun.
In 1969, at age 13, I was getting into NRA 4 position 50 foot
smallbore target shooting.
I saved my money and bought a Savage/Anshutz Mark 10 rifle.
Now living in NYC with my parents, I couldn't legally own a gun.
My mom had to get a permit and put the gun in her name.
As I got better at shooting, I sold that gun, and got an
Anshutz model 64. A few years more, and upgraded to a model
1413.
My mom has been gone for 20 years now, but someplace in a file
cabinet, deep in a NYC office building basement, my mom still
owns a rifle.

if math is right there are 8878 perimeter miles around the USA...now with 460 million guns O(excluding military) that should come down to 51800+ a mile ..a mile is 5280 ft so that should round out to about 10 guns per foot...and we CANNOT DEFEND our border ????? 0 -

Just FYI for those saying "That they know about" or other such thing about unpapered guns... The Feds get audited data straight from the manufacturers as to how exactly how many guns are produced by them every year since 1938. Import data has been around probably almost as long.
They have a good idea how many guns are out there, whether someone bought it without doing a NICS background check or not is irrelevant.0 -
11.5 MILLION produced domestically in 2016! That doesn't even include imported firearms. 1.7 MILLION Glocks alone were imported that year.

How many guns in your opinion have been "made" by people, in the USA, since manufacturers started reporting production date? I would guess a couple hundred thousand at best, not enough to make a blip when we are talking 460,000,000 guns.0 -

Quite a few sitting in peoples safes.
The question is if the bigger companies that kept track off all their guns like Colt, Remington, Winchester gave their pre '38 production data and is included in the federal gov's estimates. Either way the 460,000,000 in the mentioned UN report is higher than the previously accepted totals that have been thrown around for years, by quite a ways.0 -
