Wages/Salaries UP 3.1% - I got mine, get yours?
Wages and salaries jump by 3.1%, highest level in a decade
(as per whitehouse.gov)
According to the highly trustworth labor department.
Overall compensation costs were up 2.8 percent, well ahead of Wall Street expectations. (happy days are here again)
Wages have been the most noticeable missing piece in the economic recovery, although turkeys at the Fed have been raising rates to guard against future inflationary pressures, while taking food out of the mouths of the deserving.[:D]
KEEP ON WINNING !!!

I only wish we could raise taxes for just those people who support illegal immigration and other Government freebies while allowing Conservatives to keep their money. Wouldn't be long before the clowns decided to switch alliance if they had to actually pay for what they are asking for!

Well, my social security retirement check didn't go up 3.1% in the last couple of months.[:(]
Wife works for the state government, no raise in 3 years.[:(]
Some of my investments did good however but won't see the results until they are disposed of.
[;)]
Social Security is supposed to be an insurance program, not a retirement check.
As wages and salaries increase, the amount of money coming into the program will increase and so long as we continue to elect soul-less money whores, the payouts for SS will increase.
You should have nothing to worry about.

If you're retired your expenses are much/much less BUT you get an increase almost equal to the average person. Actually my spending habits are 50% less,, so, 2.8% is equal to 4.2%. Makes me feel good to think about it that way.[:D]
Your Social Security check will get a 2.8% boost in 2019. The Social Security Administration announced that the cost-of-living adjustment for 2019 will be 2.8 percent, which is in line with a recent estimate. The increase marks the biggest boost to benefits since 2012, when beneficiaries saw a 3.6 percent0 -

Be that as it may, it is the only retirement check a lot of people receive, not having the foresight or income to make their own investments.0 -

Rents increased 3%
When folks are retired they should be collecting rent, not paying rent.
3% is NOTHING compared to where I live. I'd say rents are up an average of DOUBLE over the last 10 years. Minimum wage is up 50%. No one is living a lot better, however motorcycle loans are easier to get, thus people are working harder to pay their loan. WHO SAYS DEBT ISN'T GOOD.[:D]
Minimum wage is 780,000 COP or about $250 per month and you are lucky, very lucky to have a job paying that amount. Note: Many times "social security" is paid all/or part by the employer. Medical is FREE for the truly poor.
This is a link to the official minimum wage site in english. There is a clickable "blue box" to go back per year to see the increases and associated percentage.

Many retirement incomes (social security) is tied to the minimum wage. Individuals can contribute more,, say double,, and their retirement will double, but haven't verified that information.
Another reason why many in the U.S. don't know what they've got until they start wishing they had it back.
PS: Todays rate is almost 3,200 pesos per dollar, gosh, maybe a short on the peso/dollar is in order?0 -
I got the tax reduction raise. But a raise no, or at least not yet. I was told Mine would be larger than the Average cause of my Additional Duties at work. 0 -

Yes, He Dog. Insurance so these people can be socially secure. The difficult part of the equation is that there are those who are truly in need because of circumstance outside their control, and there are those that are in need because of irresponsibility. We are rewarding the latter to the detriment of the former. No easy solution to this one, as there is no shame in today's America for fiscal irresponsibility.0 -

May take some people longer than others. Houston Police just got a 7% pay raise spread over two years. Firefighters are holding out for more but heard it's a LOT more.
The base salary for Police Patrol Officer ranges from $51,831 to $60,473 with the average base salary of $55,502. Normally I think there may be lots of overtime and well paying part time uniformed security jobs.
Where I am the police pay starts at 1,600,000 COP per month or $520.00 dollars per month, about the same as teachers salaries.
Teachers with responsibility for older students will be paid a little more than $1,000 per month after 20 years. Teachers will get a nice pension paying,, ?? might be close to their final salary??0 -
The Corporate head boss will be in town next week. We may just find out then. 0 -

I believe that is possibly correct for self employed people such as farmers and business owners. For employee's the funds are taken from both them and the employer if I recall correctly. For them their payments would not double.
I am not at all sure I would call the program an Insurance. It was set up to be more of a forced savings program. As noted in a previous post it started out as a program that only paid the worker who paid into the program. That has changed over the years producing a heavier burden on what was suppose to be a set aside fund.
I know of farmers that did not pay into the program until they reached the right age to get in anough quaters paid in to draw full benifits. I assume other self emplyed people did the same.
Mentioned were adding spouses, children if under a certain age,(SS) Disabled was then added (SSDI - Social Security Disability Insurance) , and also a welfare tyoe programe for those who either paid in nothing, or not enough to qualify for SS , (SSI - SUpplimental Security Income)
The Social Security "fund" also sort of fell off to the side by other misc spending programs that "borrowed" funds from it and left IOU's0 -

We don't disagree on any of that. Unfortunately a lot of people outlive whatever limited pension they might have had and SS makes for a pretty meager living.0 -
I might get my usual 2% if I don't get fired. 0 -

the social security fund would just fine if it had NOT been for the LEECHES IN CONGRESS who borrowed from it and left worthless IOU'S ...those rats in congress should have all their assets siezed, sold, and put into the SS fund ... 0 -

It would be best if you would do a little research into how SS dollars were invested before spouting nonsense.0 -

I work for the federal government at a VA hospital and we are not sure if there will be a raise this year or not.
I am fine without it but when it comes to recruiting health care workers we cannot compete with the pay of the private sector so it is hard to hire medical staff to care for Veterans.0 -

We have a nice new VA Facility here in Eugene. Without a staff to run it fully. They still have to send Vets Elsewhere to get treatment just cause they do not have the Doctors needed.
Only Reason my Doc is there is he is a Grunt Marine who went to school when he got out and became a Doc who wanted to work with Vets.0 -

A federal pension sure does help versus a self funded 401K.0 -
