Sig Or FNH

A friend is looking at a used Sig for 399.00. Its a 220 and a 229 the one with the metal frame. They both come with 2 mags but the metal frame gun has night sights.

The 3rd gun is a FNH 509. If it was me buying i like the grip on the FNH better for me but i have small hands. The FNH is 500 dollars with just 3 dot sights.

    What caliber is the P229? Sounds like it might be a police trade in at that price and be a 40 cal.

    I have one of the police trade in P229s in 40 and it is very nice.

    P220 is a 45 and my suggestion is for your friend to try each and see which fits his hand best.

    Can't lose with any of them, but IMO the FNH is a better carry gun. The 229 and 220 are both fat, heavy pigs. They make great duty guns, but not the best option for a carry gun. Plus the 509 will have a consistent trigger pull versus teh DA/SA of the Sigs unless they are DAKs.

    All 3 are 9mm so its not a 220. The sig are not full size guns but the FNH is i think.

    Actually, there were a few P220s made in 9mm, mostly for the German police market.

    If the P220 is actually a P239 that would be the best option IMO for an EDC.
    I disagree the P229 is too fat to carry. The grip width is the same as a P225A-1 (Grip length front to back is shorter on the P225A-1 but width determines how it prints under a shirt)
    The old P225/P6 has a similar grip width to the P239

    The P239 is certainly a little smaller and I usually carry it but I also carry a P229SAS on occasion

    I want a DA on the first pull. I want to really really need to pull the trigger and under stress a 12 pound pull is no different than a 3LB pull with adrenaline flowing

    Yep the P220 was made in 45 acp 9mm and 38 super that?s why it had a pinned steel breech face so the same slide could be used for different calibers.

    True but a 9MM or 38Super P220 is not likely sitting in a gun store for $399.99

    I have a Sig P226 Extreme in 9mm and I am a lefty, that damn slide release is not friendly to a lefty.

    I am not trying to be a smart ass but I pull the slide back and release it to load a fresh mag instead of using the slide stop. That will work on any pistol no matter if the slide stop is on the wrong side or if it has a slide stop at all.
