Heard a conversation between teens about rights of slaves. They were stating all deserve to be paid for being held as slaves. Now this is my own opinion ONLY, These teens have no link to slaves, there parents have no link, nor there grand parents, or great grand parents. Now the great great great grand parents did, the black people from the 1940's 1950's, 1960's these men an women new what it was like to be forced to use different doors, lines, buses, schools, etc, they fought for equal right, They had respect for the law enforcement agencies, so did the whites, Now the teens both white black brown yellow green give no one respect. i was taught to hold a door for an lady or any one elderly,
offer my seat to a women or man on a bus, Say yes Sir. Yes Ma"am. If a Police officer pulled you over it was did I do not shoot him.

I think that any slave from the 1800's deserves some compensation. Lets ask them to bring their pay stubs and a minimum wage should be determined from that era. The differential should be paid immediately. 0 -
As long as Black Americans live in the past they are doomed to stay there. The first step towards failure is not taking the gift of life and making the best you can of it no matter what happened in the past. Using slavery, white privilege, or what ever excuse they make is just that, an excuse; it is not a reason. 0 -
they aren't only living in the past, they're living in a fantasy world. how many other races have been enslaved? I have two bloodlines in me that were enslaved, and another that wasn't but she had to work the job of a slave anyway because she didn't speak English and she was a woman. so what??
and can they blame this country, when the others in their homeland captured them and sold them to us? or when we made slavery illegal but others continued?how does the blame fall on this government?
should they give the government reparations for all that welfare they were given, or payment for special treatment such as de-segregation, "equal opportunity" (reverse discrimination) hiring, college enrollment racial quotas, and so on? surely they owe more than a debt of gratitude. how about some dollars.0 -
Most british colonies had slaves. Where is the outcry for Britain to pay reparation. America seems to be the only country where they whine about such things. 0 -

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way, maybe our wonderful government or should I say elected sponsors should start speaking this way, that its a privilege to be in this country. That these young men an women just need to learn to stand up on there own two feet. It is the DEMOCRATs and their allies in the media that use both slavery past and racism as a weapon. As long as their is a political gain by doing so, they will continue.
The same DEMOCRATs and their allies in media and academia hide the fact that it was the DEMOCRATs that opposed the 13th amendment opposing slavery and it was the DEMOCRATs that passed and defended the Jim Crow laws mentioned in the OP.0 -
Just for the sake of discussion, suppose I were to agree that the payment of reparations is correct.
Does no one consider that it is stereotyping to assume that ALL persons of color were slaves? There were settlements of freemen thru several Southern states- including a sizeable one in Petersburg VA. Second, how about the persons that arrived here AFTER the abolishment of slavery?
Now, just WHO pays those reparations? Does my British wife, who emigrated here in the 1960s, pay? How about the families that lost members that were serving in the Union army? How about the descendants of those that never owned slaves? Does a person who is racially mixed get PART of the reparations- or do they pay part?
There is no one living today that was held as a slave in the US. To claim that someone deserves compensation because of their grandparents or great grandparents shows the results of a really screwed up educational system. Mush for brains.
Anyone that thinks it is a good idea is invited to get out their checkbook, and contribute as much as they think they should- and then STFU.0 -
It seems to me that in the 1970's it started to become profitable to declare yourself a victim.

South Vietnamize who came to America received 7 years of no taxes, and 1% loans on home and car loans. ( I had one working under me and making more than I was as his supervisor because of his tax free status)

in fact they did something like, tell a bunch of people in the US colony that they were taking them away to not be slaves anymore... then shipped them off to the West Indies to be slaves there instead.0 -
