    WOW....often thought about for a small home observatory to comfortably view the heavens and take some pics but here on the plains the conditions are generally limited for a good clear viewing

    every time I look at such photos I realize just how insignificant we truly are in the grandeur of it all

    I think it was Carl Sagen who said there is other life in space but the distance's is so great no way will we ever encounter another life form or them us
    being just a dumb old fellow I tend to agree its just too vast, uncountable galaxies and planets odds are there is many more life forms
    I think why star trek was / is so popular

    It is beautiful, vibrant...and yes (I believe) alive. I look at those photos and then think of the decade long struggle it took "just" to reach the moon; a dead rock three days away from Earth which is devoid of all life. I wonder if mankind (a living breathing human being), will ever get any further into space?

    No, he doesn't use an "entry level" telescope. He is, in fact, in the process of moving it from Texas to the high Atacama Desert (the darkest and driest place on the planet) in Peru. Once there, he'll have it computer controlled so he can run it from a laptop no matter where he is.

    He can afford it.

    He is also a high-level long range rifle shooter, btw. Says the required amount of breathing, heartbeat, and mental control is a lot like what is required for putting at the PGA level. That's true.

    Probably not Mark, politicians are too involved in lining their own pockets than exploring outer space... Which means there's no money left over to explore outer space after they line their pockets...[xx(]

    Remember: WE are an alien civilization to them - and we aren't appearing in their skies. Star Trek is fiction and probably always will be.

    Keep in mind that our first radio transmissions were only made 119 years ago. Those first transmissions are right now only 119 light years distant from us, and incredibly weak. There's a whole lot more universe out beyond 119 light years and another civilization would have had to have progressed to the point that they could recieve the signals and also be able to distinguish them from background noise.
    I think it's likely that someone else is out there somewhere, but we may never meet or communicate with them.
