  I just remove the top and pour out desired amount but I can?t wait to

  Yep, just unscrew the top too.
  
  While that pepper trick works, that's NOT the reason the ridges are there.
  Beer bottles, peanutbutter jars, jelly jars have ridges too.
  Most jars have them.
  
  The ridges are to prevent slippery glass jars from sliding off tables.
