Questions loading 32 H+R/327 Mags??

I'm getting ready to start loading for both of these. I will want the 32 H+R loads to be very mild, no recoil, plinking rounds great for starting kids shooting center fires.


The 327 Mag I want to have a little zip but not serious hot rodding. Just enough zip to lift the muzzle a little. I have read that cranking the 327 up to max loads makes for a very unpleasant muzzle blast.

The problem I am running into is most of the manuals I have referenced typically use different powders for both of these. In your experience, what powder would do a good job for both of these little guys so I don't have to store 2 cans of powder when 1 can will do double duty. At the moment I have some 95 grain hard cast bullets to use for my initial reloading. Any different bullet weights that seem to give good accuracy in your guns??

    I think Ramshot True Blue would be an excellent powder. If using a progressive TB really meters well.

    For plinking 5477 or Trailboss with cast would be my goto.

    Titegroup would be fine as would lil gun.

    NOT H110. That's not a powder that can safely be reduced. It's a full throttle only powder.

    I'd look at Hodgdon Universal or Unique. I favor Universal because it's cleaner and seems to measure better, but Unique is just fine.

    Latest Hornady manual lists titegroup and hs6 and win 231 under both.

    BTW, if you pick up a set of dies for the .32 S&W Long, you can load all three cartridges with them by simply changing the depth of the belling and crimping dies.

    And for that powderpuff load, just shoot .32 S&W Longs.

    Yeah but that involves buying more brass. I'm trying not to end up with all kinds of extra components in my reloading area. But it is a good idea. I was hoping to find a bulky enough powder that I could load a powder puff load in the H+R brass.

    I'm beginning to wonder if part of my problems in trying to come up with an acceptable powder/load combo is the fact I'm trying to use lead rather than jacketed bullets. Any thoughts on this??

    Just get the dies. Nothing says you have to buy or load all three - but the option is there. You can't load a shorter round with dies made for a longer round, but you can if the dies are cut for the shortest one.

    Edit to add: Trail Boss is VERY bulky. It was designed to fill the case but give mild loads for Cowboy Action shooting. And with cast bullets.

    Cast is the best option for what you seek. Jacketed bullets require a certain minimum load to overcome their added friction. Cast doesn't.

    THIS!! ^^^^ NOT H110

    H110 is for hot rod, max power in large bore knock em down pistol
    calibers.
