Grass In The Road ?
I was cutting the grass by the road. I cut about 50 yards on each side of the driveway and on the other side of the road.
My neighbor will pick up where i stop and go to his place. It looks good the way we do it.
Anyway some guy stopped and asked me to cut in the other direction that someone on a motorcycle will run over the grass and could wreck.
I rode bikes from age 16 to 35 and never had a problem.
Who is right?

I guess if it rained a little and the grass got wet it could make a hazard for bikes. 0 -
Just how much grass is getting on the road? Without more information, I'm inclined to think that guy is just your common bitcher. 0 -

I really don't see why you would blow the grass on the road if it can be cut to blow back on the roadside without problem. Just courtesy. 0 -
Watch the municipal guys that mow. They never blow in onto the road. 0 -
Here, it's illegal to discharge grass clippings onto a roadway, should be illegal everywhere.
The biggest issue here is debris in the storm drain systems ...... believe me, we need all the drainage we can get with our annual rainfall.
I personally agree with the motorcycle thing and even in a car or truck, no one wants to drive through any kind of trash on the road.0 -
Never understood why folks send stuff out into the road when there is no need to do so.
Grass doesn't bother me too much. It is thoughtless to put it on the road, but it doesn't create huge problems. The folks that use them snowblower things and clear their driveways onto the road are a much bigger problem.0 -
Facebook has postings telling people that grass is a danger to bikers.
The guy may not even have any idea, except he read it on facebook.
Myself, I have never mowed to throw grass on the road. It just seems tacky to do so.0 -
Yes - It is VERY dangerous to me and my fellow 'Motorcycle Enthusiasts'.
I have even seen cars lose traction on grass/leaves in the road.
Only a total Azz-bag would leave grass on the public streets after mowing.0 -
Our jurisdiction received complaints from riders about PW mowing and leaving clippings out in the road. I say if you can mow in a direction that shoots the clippings in your yard instead of the road it is the courteous thing to do. Otherwise blow them into your yard. Some localities have ordinances against this kind of behavior, same with snow plowing snow from private property out into the road. 0 -

Grass in the road is just like wet leaves, you know it's going to be slippery.
Road rash sucks when it's from the foolishness of others .0 -
Slicker than snot after a little rain.
Plus think of this what if you don't hear a car coming while mowing and Kick up a rock. Could do some major damage.0 -

The street department and highway department put their "road snow" on my sidewalk. I just return it to them.
If they want to drive slower and put their snow on the grass between the street and the sidewalk, that would be OK with me. At the speeds they drive, it just ends up on my sidewalk . . . so I put it back on their street. [;)]0 -
Trash on the road and side of the road bothers me. The grass will dry rapidly and blow away. What about leaves in the fall? The trash is an eyesore to say the least when I'm driving and enjoying mother natures best you all of a sudden see beer cans/containers ect all over. I pick it up when I'm camping, fishing and out of my yard and street where I live when I can.

Kissgoodnight is correct, it is something that has been going around FB recently. Bikers bitching about the grass left on roads.
I have ridden bikes almost all my life, and was an LEO for 36 years, and I have to admit this never casused me a problem, and I never once worked an accident scene where a bike had an accident because of the grass left on the roadway.
That being said, I?m sure some inexperienced rider may have some problems with it, leafs & farm debris I?m sure cause an even worse effect on bikes & cars.
I have also seen FB post where folks have said it is illegal to leave the grass on the road, but I don?t know what law book they are reading, or maybe it?s a local or regional requirement where they live, but it?s not here where I?m at. I would imagine the land owner could be held liable civilly if something was to happen though.
I do however always blow my grass back onto my yard when I cut it so I don?t get some concerned biker stopping & complaining.

There was a group of about 200 bicycle riders with a chase vehicle in front and behind them come through while I was mowing my grass last week. I always use a bagger on the mower and mulch the clippings then dump them on the road to let passing vehicles blow the clippings on down the road, needless to say 137 bicycle riders lost their life in front of my house that day. 0 -

Had one bridge here with grooves for rain(they have since gotten rid of the groove) Rode my 750 across it many times no problems. Rode my 250 with knobby tires. It almost bucked me off. Learned to just guide it not fight it and all was good.0 -
I really hate to see people do that. It just looks like hell. I don't know but I suppose it could be dangerous to vehicles. I mow the shoulder in front of my house when it gets high. The state mows sometimes, but I mow it most of the time. I blow it towards my yard and the woods. Never on the road.I have seen people who have yards right up to the road totally cover the road out to the center line. Yes there is a law against it but I know of no case where it is enforced. 0 -

Blowing grass into the road makes a totally unnecessary sightly mess. Either mow the other direction or when you are done run your mower up the road using it as a blower to fix the mess you made. 0 -
In addition to the (small, but there) potential safety issue caused by the slick grass if the road gets wet, etc. is the run off and where the clippings eventually end up. If you eject 'em back on to the grass, then it eliminates the (small, but there) safety issue AND it keeps the clippings on the grass where they can break down and provide nutrients, etc. that are then used. BIG issues in some areas with grass clippings ending up in the city drainage systems, which provides extra nutrients and fertilizer to retention areas, which cause bad algae blooms, makes the water bad for fish, etc and so forth. Not so much an issue for those of us that are more rural but still ...
So... small but there safety issue, but then on top a bad thing for the environment.
Now, I'm not a tree hugging prius driving whacko or a raging safety freak, but if it simply takes reversing the direction you start mowing, it really doesn't "cost" you anything why not just simply switch?0 -

That doesn't work here. You will get fined for pushing snow onto the street even if the city blades it up onto your(their) sidewalk on their boulevard.
