puter help for a puter dummy please

Spare laptop...win7 pro...google chrome browser...

Spellcheck not working.

Tryed to check settings, "webbased spellcheck is turned on"

Works great on other laptop with same specs.
WTH is going on??

    Were those the Windows settings or the Chrome settings? Might have to be set ON in both.

    That was in chrome.
    I checked internet explorer, couldn't find a spell check there too.
    I searched for spellcheck in windows, could not find anything any where
    about spell checking.

    where do i look in windows??

    Doesn't seem to be in Windows, so I was wrong. I defer to any genuine expert.

    I think I'd re-install Chrome and reboot. (If yours isn't the current version, upgrade it instead)

    Make sure your bookmarks, settings, add-ons, history and such are backed up (Chrome does this to the cloud, but do make sure) first. It's in Settings.

    Then download the current version of Chrome; install and sync your saved stuff. Reboot.

    That does appear to be the solution.
    Just got to get up the nerve to trust I save all my info first.

    I'm just not that cool with doing all that is needed to save "stuff".

    Maybe, I'll just put an end to the 9mm vs .45 debate with this laptop.

    I know how you feel. I have two really old laptops that I used as travel machines. I converted one to Linux Lite because it didn't have the resources to handle anything else (it was originally an XP machine) and another with Win 7 that "upgraded" itself to Win 10 but turned into a three-toed sloth because of it. And can't be changed.

    I was so frustrated with both of them that I bought a cheap Chromebook. Am now scrubbing anything personal off the two old ones and will donate them to charity.

    If you are going to chitcan yours anyway, consider changing it to a Linux machine. Creating a bootable USB stick is the hardest part, but I can talk you through that. You'll LOVE Linux mint on a laptop.

    Chrome SUCKS.

    I've been thinking about "un-installing" it on my Tablet.

    WAY, too invasive.

    I like the idea when I look at a website about small engines, the
    next day all the pop=up adds are for B$S carbs, gas additives, spark plugs.

    And then the junk emails........

    I fixed it!![:D][:D]

    Downloaded an old browser I used to use many years ago...Firefox!!

    Instant importing of chrome bookmarks, passwords, history.

    Works great

    Now install uBlock Origin as an add-on to block all ads, popups, etc.

    Thanks, I will look into that add blocker.

    Will just "play" with Firefox for about 2 days to settle in.
    Too many changes at once isn't good for this old guy...
