I will be home on the 20th for two weeks. If you want we can go ahead and get those guns taken care of. Let me know and I will try to get ahold of the gun shop in town to get you the FFL. 0 -
I don't post updates on medical stuff because I know folks get tired/aren't really interested. But since you asked things are not going so well. I thought I was doing great then it turned out I wasn't. Still having post surgery complications. Will be back in the hospital next week for more testing.
I really wish I had just died. If I had known every detail of what would happen I would never have consented to the surgery. At least my death would have quick...and merciful.0 -
prayers sent my friend.... 0 -
Prayers said for you, Doc! 0 -
Best wishes Doc, I am sure your wife does not wish that. 0 -
Prayers sent your way for a fast and Speedy Doc.
As HeDog said, I'm sure your family wouldn't think it would be best that you would have died. and I for one, not knowing you except through you posting here, would miss you... And no doubt I speak for most of us here...0 -
Doc, S/P,
Don't get down on your luck, there are quite a few of us here who really care about you. Your experience and knowledge of life is a great resource to many of us, let alone your love for guns. IMO, you have achieved a great deal in your life, and are well respected.
In the past, I've seen you deal with issues that have seem to set you back, but that's life my friend. I know that you've been dealt with a crappy hand lately, but please don't throw in the cards just yet. You have many people around you that really appreciate you and your wisdom. I love your posts here, as well as on the S&W forum, and I have learned things that were not very obvious because of your information. Please keep fighting my friend, I wish you the best..

Doc
stick it out your doing great and I can relate to your feelings and reoccurring pain . It will get better but it may take a lot of time
trust me I told my doctor and my wife the same thing about just kicking off
it took me a good year.to come around with any real change in hurting I would say three really to get thru all the chest pain and what felt like my heart acting up .
I lost track of the times I went back to the doc or the wife made me go to the ER for the pain in my chest during that 3 year . give or take .
I was thinking I was never going to be ok Ijust stopped telling my wife when I was having issues with it . I never took the nitro pills they told me they would help even had me take one in th office one day so I see what to expect . angina I think was part of it
its been 13 years + for me I was 48 did not have a heart attack just luck of the draw I was making them run some test
I was also so scared after all the trauma of the surgery I would eat nothing that possibly could effect me IO was like a movie vampire running away from a cross ( sorry to say that went out the window also after about 3 or 4 years now eat anything any time [:(]0 -
I also have been down. Ive prayed to God to please let me die more times than you will believe.
Ive been through some hard times with all my surgeries and other things. Your mind can be a blessing or a curse. It all depends on how you use it.
I have had my mind put me through the ringer more than a few times.
When i got cancer my 5 year old grandson asked me if i was mad at him because i would not play with him anymore.[:(] My wife was in the room and saw tears come out and she took him into the living room. From then on the only people that could see me was my parents.
Doc i do not know you very well just from your post but from what i have seen you are a good person. I dont think i have ever heard you say a bad word about anyone. Like me i will not talk badly to anyone on the internet. In person its a different story.
Sadly whenever your body gets sick most of the time you will never be the same. Its called a new normal.
When i went through cancer my doctor gave me about a 10% chance of making it. 6 surgeries chem/radiation im still here.
However im in massive pain everyday. People ask why i do not work. They do not know you have arthritis in your jaw, back and neck and everyday you hurt worse than the day before.
Doc all you can do is face life day by day. Some days are good some days are bad. There will be great days along with nightmare days.
I can not talk as eloquent as you. So i hope this makes sense to you.
I will promise you this you are loved way more than you can imagine.
You mentioned if you knew now what you would be like now you would have rather died i truly understand.
After all my surgeries chemo/radiation i had to go every 3 months to check for cancer. I asked my cancer doctor about a year later why he did not tell me about all the side effects i would have to live with.
He told me there are so many ways that treating what i had there is no way to predict what side effects i would have.
Its hard to believe its been 8 years now. My oldest grandson is 14 now. Plus i have 4 more.
Doc, when my grandson Cameron made me cry that hurt my heart hard. The thing that hurt far more than anything was waking up in the middle of the night and finding my wife in the living room crying because im in so much pain or i have been throwing up for 2 days straight.
When my wifes parents died 2 weeks apart i never saw her cry. So if she is crying things are really bad.
Doc things will get better that i can promise you. Will all days be good. Nope. Thats life. All you can do is the best you can. Minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, and so forth.
I have learned that way more people care for you than you can imagine. I would say in every class you taught there is at least 1 student who will always remember you.
I have math teacher from 1982 that everytime she sees me she will give me a hug and a kiss. She told me that i was one of her favorite students she had. Thats how i know someone will remember you from school. She is one of three teachers i remember from school.
Depending on if your depressed you might want to think about taking something for depression. Or find someone to talk to. Talking to someone also really help. There is nothing to be ashamed of. I take medicine for depression. I need it and i know i need it. It is what it is.
I will post things on here that i will not tell anyone.
Doc prayers for you and yours. If you want someone to listen or talk to my number is 1-252-343-9471.
Prayers again.0 -
Hang in there Doc.
Here's hoping and wishing they get you feeling better real soon.
A bunch of us would miss you.0 -
Doc ^^^ what dav said. No way I could put it better. Things may seem dark right now...no argument, they very well may be. Please take strength knowing that you DO have friends and a support system here...just ask mrmike. We are interested in updates on your situation and care how you're doing. You're a smart guy Doc, take advantage of what you have here to unload and vent some as you move thru the process of recovering. I'd be more than happy to share my contact info if you'd care to talk privately, just let me know. You may be surprised to find how many on here have faced major physical, and related challenges, and stand ready, willing to not only listen, but also share some ideas you might not yet have considered that may help you in conquering what you're dealing with. We're here for ya my friend, let us help as we can. Please feel free to use this email SIU345@aol.com. 0 -
?don't post updates on medical stuff because I know folks get tired/aren't really interested.?
You?re wrong about that I, for one, like to hear the good and the not so good.
Also, your occasional gun pictures are always well received.0 -
Doc, your one of the best guys to ever post on here. I sincerely mean that. Please don't wish death upon yourself. When I had my six heart attacks, back surgery and the prostate cancer, all I could think about, was living. I wanted to ride my motorcycle, hunt fish, golf, and be with my friends and family. Well, maybe not my family, but you get the jist. I for one, am real glad your still with us. Prayers for you and better health. Oak. 0 -
Prayers for your physical pain and your overall well being....the World would be less interesting without you Doc.... 0 -
As ChrisStreet noted, Doc, this may seem dark at the moment.
Spent a week or so being fed through a tube in my chest with the possibility that it was my long term future. At the time, while I knew (assumed? hoped?) the future would be better, there were moments when the cold embrace of nothingness seemed preferable to where I was.
I remain in constant pain.
I seem to require reconstructive surgery every year or so.
My life is incredibly different that it used to be or what I had hoped it would be.
You will eventually embrace where you are, and if there is substance to you, you will recognize the preciousness of every day, week, month, and year.
If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be in the condition I am today, I would have said 'shoot me now'.
To the contrary, however, the past 5 years have been the most fulfilling of my life, the best years I have had, and the next years will be better still.
It is not what you are but who you are. Choose to embrace life. Make the choice that tomorrow will be better than today and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.0 -
we are all still here because the Lord has something-else for us to do on this earth
prayers for you Doc0 -
