Busy afternoon

Grandson and I were making things ready for Saturday's ice fishing derby we plan to attend.

When we were interrupted by my Walker hound bitch beginning to whelp this belly full of Bluetick Walker X pups.
She popped out 4, 5th was breached and My Bride worked him out, 6,7 out good, 8 another breach and My Bride and got it out, 9 and 10 slid out good.

Last check of the night before bed has all warm, trying to suckle and making plenty of puppy noises. Have a big oil electric heater in the dog room/ kennel and have them in a whelping box lightly bedded with straw.
Will see what to morning brings.

    Have spoke with you and your wife a few times, and couldn't ever want to have a better chat..[^] Good luck with the pups, the wife, the roping and riding grand kids, the work across the pond and all of the other stuff that you are involved with..[^]

    Notice how I didn't mention good luck with buying the guns that I listed....[:D]

    I used to like to go ice fishing when I lived in upstate New York. I haven?t been in years. What kinds of fish are in the lakes you ice fish? Do you use a hand augar or a gas powered one? I live in Florida now but I still have my tip ups. I guess it?s just wishful thinking that I?ll ever go ice fishing again.

    Thank you for the kind words, and notice it has been close to a year since I bid on any of your auctions, trying to let you recoup some of the money you lost on me [:D][:D]

    Mostly I target Lake trout in 3 different lakes.
    The 3-10 lbers we keep to eat and anything over 10 we release. We will catch several during the winter that will go between. 20-30 lbs.

    Where we will fish tomorrow's ice derby is Island Park reservoir in SE Idaho, it is a small 7,000 lake and has native Cutthroat, Rainbows, and Kokanee salmon.
    If you catch a 3-4 lber it's a good one.
    We will use my youngest sons 6" Nils auger and electric drill as ice is only just over a foot.
    I'll try to post some evidence photos.

    For Mack (Lake trout) I use a 10" Eskimo Shark with a 51cc two stroke and when fishing late season ice, I have a extra 3' flighted extension and have one lake that will use all 6' of it in April.

    Well dawn has broke and all 10 are still living and sucking. Look like a wriggling mass of black and white.

    Do you run your hounds or just have them around the place?

    I used to do quite a bit of coon hunting. But it takes a lot of time to keep a hound tuned up and I just don't have the time anymore.

    Lions and bears.
    Will likely chase some coon this spring to get her tuned back up after these pups are weaned and gone.
    I have another little red tick bitch to get started and a big solid Bluetick of my grandsons to help me along. He has a real deep chop and I can hear him a lot farther than I can the two bitch dogs.
