EDIT: As it seems there is some interest in the data to continue. I'll keep going. I'll make an individual post per ammo type. As I shoot that same ammo through different length barrels Ibwill update that ammos individual posts. I will do the same for temperature changes that are significant assuming I'm still doing this as it gets warmer.

I recently did some chrono checks on some. Common types of 22LR ammo. I wanted to see how they would compare against the advertised velocities on the box.
The rifle was a Marlin 981T pre Remington.
Those not familiar , it's a bolt action, tube fed, microgrove rifle, with a 22inch barrel. I did 5 shot groups and averaged the velocities.
60*F , 80% humidity, no wind.
36 grain Remington golden bullet was 1184fps, advertised was 1280
40 grain Remington golden bullet was 1130fps, avertised was 1255fps
32 grain CCI stinger was 1544fps, advertised was 1640 fps
40 grain CCI velociter was 1294 fps, advertised was 1435fps
40 grain Winchester super x was 1283 fps,
Advertised was 1300 fps.
I suppose if people want more specific shot data they can email me as I recorded each shot.

I forgot to add that I heard CCI uses a 24 inch or 18inch text barrel. I also heard once that after 19inches, a barrel slows 22 rounds down. 0 -
I have heard the same thing about slowing down the bullet from drag.

General feeling seems to be that most 22lr rounds will reach maximum velocity in a 16" - 18". Anything past that will result in some frictional slowing of the projectile.
That said, one would think the 32 grain Stinger listed would need a longer barrel to achieve maximum velocity than the 36 grain Remington.0 -
That sounds about right with the 22 inch barrel. They usually test with an 18-inch barrel for 22 long rifles because that is the point where they give maximum velocity, after that friction slows them down 0 -

Did some more testing, this time with handguns and centerfire rifles.
If this is a thread folks would like to see updated from time to time I'll continue, however I understand there are lots of good sources out there. So let me know folks.0 -

I'm interested to see whatever you have tested.
I used to have a Chrony, until my cousin blasted it with a 12 ga. slug at 7 yards. How could he shoot that low? I accused him of closing his eyes before he shot. He said he'd buy me another one....well, I am still waiting.0 -

Federal 9mm 115grain brass cased fmj.
5inch barrel had an AVG of 1131 fps, ES 65, Standard Deviation was 19. The advertised velocity was 1125fps. Pretty true to the box I think.
Same ammo out of a 3inch barrel had an average of 1008fps with an ES of 41 and a SD of 14.0 -
38F. 80% humidity
Winchester whitebox, 556 NATO 55grain FMJ.
16 inch barrel 1:9 twist
Avg velocity was 2954 FPS. ES of 92 and SD of 26. Advertised velocity was 3250 fps. I'm guessing that was likely with a 20 inch or longer test barrel but I could be wrong.0 -

Federal 9mm 115 grain FMJ ALUMINIUM case.
3inch barrel
Avg : 998 FPS
ES: 57
SD : 18
Advertised velocity was 1145 FPS ( assuming th e test barrel was likely 5 inches)0 -

30-06 ppu 150 grain FMJ head stamp "yuu"
Test gun was a M-1 rifle
Avg was 2,641
For the PPU 150 grain FMJ marked for M-1 rifle load that isnhead stamped "PPU" the average velocity was 2715fps.0 -

30-06 Winchester power point 150 grain jacketed soft point.
24 inch barrel with 1-10 Twist.
Average velocity was 2882fps
Advertised velocity was 2920fps.
Extreme spread on this ammo was only 13fps which I thought was pretty awesome considering the velocities we saw.0
