  I can only assume that 6mm refers to the 6mm Remington cartridge which is a different cartridge than the .243 Winchester.

  The 243 is based on the 308 cartridge
  
  The 6mm is based on the 7mm Mauser
  
  
  The AI means they are Ackley Improved and have the shoulder angle changed most likely to a 40 Degree.
  
  They have the same bore but are not interchangeable.

  6mm rem. is the same as 244 rem.
