We had something similar that we got rid of a while ago.

I grill most of my food outside, and if it is something that is traditionally fried, I am still a big fan of the flavor that oil/bacon grease, etc. adds to food.

Things tasted fine out of it IIRC, but I always felt they were missing something.

Donuts without the grease, just aint donuts![:)]

I have had mixed feelings about buying an air fryer. Back sometime in the 80's\90's??, my wife bought an oil-less pop corn popper. It made the most awesome Styrofoam tasting pop corn I ever put in my mouth![xx(]

If there is no oil, the salt has nothing to stick to. Not cutting down an air fryer, no experience but my common sense button gets pushed when I ponder a purchase.

Have you ever popped corn in bacon grease, Brookwood?

It about the only thing I use the cast iron fry pan for anymore.

Nope, never tried bacon grease Don, but your experience just aroused my taste buds![:p]
I bet you don't even think about adding melted butter to the corn!?[:0][:0] I'll be definitely giving this a try very soon. Thank you!![:p]

No butter and no salt. Just pure bacon/popcorn goodness.

I doubt the cast iron pan vs. a non-stick really makes much difference, but it takes me back 50+ years to grampa's cabin where we popped corn in lard with a cast iron pan over a wood stove.

I recently just cashed in most of my Cabela's Club credit card points. I wanted a top of the line cast iron frying pan and got one made in France by some top chef or whatever. Cost was 200 semolians worth of points.[:0]

Figured I would never need another and boy was I disappointed! After doing everything in the book to season, even my eggs would stick! I bet this pan weighs close to 10 pounds and boy you have to be careful not to drop it on your foot! I knew I could not send it back after using it but I think I now own the worlds most expensive pop corn popper!![:D] P.S. It did not even come with a lid! Good thing I have many that fit!

Yup ~ I've known several people that "ate healthy" - followed all the "proper eating rules & quantities" to a 'T'.

They have all died ... and I'm older than they ever were.

Some of you go take a shot of crisco or a good drink of wesson oil. Maybe some 5-20 w synthetic.

We've bought our like-new, cookers at resale stores for a fraction of the original cost. JWB, we're waiting for yours to show up. Mean while we use a New Wave infrared oven which is only so-so. However, the best deal has been the "Set-it & Forget it" rotisserie. Roasts, chickens, etc., all come out great. One thing is that when building our house, I put a 4" inline fan & vent behind the corner cabinet to carry most of the "aroma" from the kitchen. This fan works great for the pop corn maker also.
