Gunsafe stuff.

If a gun safe is kept in a garage in a place where the humidity is on average 54% during the year and in the coldest months gets to around 62% and the hot months is around 51 % and it has a golden road in it do you think it will have any issues for the guns in it?

    You know it wouldn't hurt to put some of that silica gel pellets in it too. You can get a gallon jug of it for about 20-30 bucks online. I would get the color changing type, that way you can know when you have to rejuvenate it

    It comes in an opaque plastic jug that looks about like a antifreeze jug. But like I said, its opaque that way you can see if the silica gel has changed colors. I just drilled a bunch of small holes in The Jug itself to attract the moisture, and put the whole jug in my safe. It seems to work really good for me. I think I have to take it out about every 3 years to rejuvenate it. And the humidity where I keep my safe is about the same as what you're talking about. And no I don't have an electric dehumidifier in my safe

    My friend has had his safe in his garage for 40 years. He collects a lot of antique firearms. He has a golden rod and silicone packets in the safe. Never a problem. He also has it raised off the concrete floor with a pedestal he built. About 6" high, so it doesn't draw moisture in. I put the golden rod in about 10 years ago for him. Before then, he just used the silicone packets.Oak.

    Use the correct size golden rod and keep fabrics out of contact with it, it needs air flow around it. I live in the desert and worry more about too dry. I wish there were a humidostat that would turn the golden rod on and off to maintain a set humidity range.

    Yeah...one of the things I worry about of course is the temperature swings....winters can be in the single digits and summers in the triple digits.

    Also the contact with the floor is a really good point. Would having it on top of a rubber mat help?

    Edit...now that I think about it the temperature swings really shouldn't worry me. My guns get that cold when I go hunting or when I go to the range or heat up when I do a rapid shot string and they have never had a problem....I would like a barrier between the safe and concrete that will help keep the powder coat from getting scratched up and thus preventing rust on the bottom.
