smith model 15
local shop has a model 15 no dash for sale. gun is excellent mechanically and probably 80% blue. problem i have is the color of the blueing. it is almost black and just doesn't look right. that being said i really dont see any signs of a re-blue. wear pattern, all the lettering look correct. the color just doesnt look right. $350 otd. anyone have any thought on this???

If your concerned about the "look" then move on to another gun. If its mechanically sound then its a good shooter. $350 OTD is a fair deal. I would buy it but I already have a couple of them. 0 -
I would expect the original finish to be a dark blue-black on an old Smith. Color of lighting can affect it's appearance.
But, when we describe a finish percentage, it should be "percentage of original finish". If the entire 80% blue surface is abraded (rubbed) to the point that it is no longer shiny, or has countless small scratches, then we would call it "0% precent finish". (And, price it accordingly.)
The fastest way to spot a refinished Smith is to look at the cylinder flutes; they should have sharp edges. If rounded, it's not original.
