Use the FIND feature on your computer is so equipped. You will need accurate file names.

Yes, use find with the "wildcard *". For instance:
*.xls will return all the "xls" or "xlsx" files.
*.doc will find all the "docx" files

A lot you can do using different methods, do a search on the net.

Not sure what version you are using. I am using word/excel 2010.
Click on FILe, then select Options, and then Save. This gives you the option to select a specific location for saving files.

If it hasn't been changed, don't know what the default location is.

    Hope this helps.

They may no longer be on your machine. My Win 10 moved all my documents and tried to move all my photos to their damn One Drive cloud. But they only give you 5Gb of free storage, then hold you ransom to buy more. If you try to delete your stuff from One Drive, it isn't just gone from there, it is gone, period. I lost all my photos that way.
