last time I made some for dinner (my wife works I retired so reversed roles ) I was trying to make something different she informed me she did not like it, ( what ? ) told me she just made it for me and the boys years ago

I do enjoy good sauerkraut but when it comes to store bought stuff, I find most brands to be very inconsistent in their batch quality.
The last jar of Vlasic I bought tasted like it was pickled in kerosene. The Silver Floss was loaded with tough fibrous chunks of cabbage that was equivalent to chewing on tree bark.[xx(] The Franks Kraut was too mushy.0 -

kraut is the kind of thing you get a hunkering for...eat as lot of it, and hope you never see it again.

Boar's Head is consistently good kraut. I like it on a brat or hot dog, pan fried until caramelized as a side dish, or in the classic pork ribs and kraut casserole. Warmed is always better than cold. 0 -

In the hot summertime, I like it ice cold from the fridge right out of the jar! As I take the very last forkful out of the brine I notice that the label says 10 servings per container!![:0][:p] 0 -
The only thing I don't like sauerkraut on sausages for is if I'm eating a hot dog type of a sausage... It makes the bun soggy. So all usually put it off to the side and take a bite of my hot dog, and along with a fork of sauerkraut 0 -

I had Franks SauerKraut yesterday and liked it just fine. Many ways to fix, cuts, texture of Kraut. I like it better as leftovers the next day.[:D]
My Mother, was the absolute best at making sausage and kraut from what I hate to say from scratch, but it is, was not easy. If only I could get the Wife to do the same. I did mention that to Her, and the answer was "would you like dinner or not that the sausage, chops and Kraut are from the butcher". Now maybe Dad can help me make His sausage, and we could all enjoy the memories of Mom in the kitchen.

I only buy Clausens ?always refrigerated? sauerkraut anymore. It retains some of the cabbage crunch, and, IMO, there is nothing better on a reuban. 0 -
I had some good sauerkraut for dinner tonight. It had mustard in it. gave it a bit of a different twist, but it was good. Guess that's how they eat it here. 0 -

Yep. My Grandma said that all people have the same taste buds, so if the People of ***** have a certain, maybe weird delicacy you ought to try it to see why they like it. All in all, it has been great advice.

I always seek out foods that I've never tried, just on that principle.
Just recently, I was on a cruise and saw congee on the breakfast buffet. Congee is a thin rice soup that may well be the most widely eaten breakfast on the planet. Numerous versions are made all over Asia.
Now, the idea of a watery rice soup for breakfast might not seem very appetizing. But let me tell you, that bowl of warmth was fabulous. Little bits of chicken, a hint of ginger and onion, all in a slurry of rice that seemed to actually get warmer in my stomach. So easy to digest that it'd be perfect for a handover.
I liked it so much I made a crockpot full when I got home. Gonna have a bowl for breakfast today, in fact. And all because I didn't say to myself. "Congee? Ewwwww."0
