Printer/Scanner
I had to buy a new printer/scanner Thursday. The scanner half of my old one died with the computer when it exploded and the printer half bit the dust Wednesday. I ziggyed on down to Walmart with the intention of buying the cheapest, simplest, no bells and whistles they had.
I bought a Canon printer/scanner for $16.00 and ink refills for $52.20. The printer/scanner came with one each black and color. I?m thinking when I run out of ink I?ll buy another printer/scanner, take the ink out of the carton and trash the printer.
Canon must be trying to emulate Gillette and Schick where they sell you a razor for 2? or just give it to you and sell you the blades for $2.00 each.
The printer/scanner is unnecessarily complicated to use but that?s another rant for another day. It works fine, the problem is the software writer wants me to do things I?d rather not.

There are lots of places online to buy less expensive ink. Cartridges are hermetically sealed, so you can buy in bulk and not worry that they'll be dried up when you get to the last one.
When my decade-old HP died last year, I bought a Brother MFC-J4800W. It uses individual black, yellow, red, and blue cartridges. I buy the high-cap refills in bulk. Use mostly black, of course.0 -
The ink that comes with a new printer - scanner is basically trial size. I just bought a new Cannon , printed 6 pages and the black ink level is already dropping fast. 0 -

James, don't be surprised if the cartridges that shipped in that printer are reduced capacity and run dry very quickly. I've had nothing but bad luck with ink jet printers, so when I began setting up my new office I bit the bullet and bought a laser printer. I have not regretted it.0 -
Some manufacturers are imbedding a chip in their ink cartridges; if you use a "generic" cartridge, you get an error message & the printer won't work.
Costco & other places will refill your name brand cartridge for a small price; I haven't tried it yet to see how well that works.
Last time I checked, a set of HP ink cartridges for my HP printer was selling for $160, about what I paid for the printer!

It's an inexpensive printer but does copies, scans, fax via of WIFI,,,,,,,been happy so far ,,,,,,,other plans are available if you higher print volume.
I've both way too many cartridges and printers... I've always shied away from the subscription plans but they're convenient as hell. And at .06 per printed sheet, not bad if you only occasionally print.
Now - putting my tin foil hat on - if the printer monitors your print count, how sure are you that it's not sending info on _what_ you print to big brother?0 -
I have a Cannon scanner/printer and found some cheap ink cartridges on Amazon that work for $24.95. In the package are included 6 Large Black PGI-251XL, 6 Small Black CLI-251XL, 6 Cyan CLI-251XL, 6 Yellow CLI-251XL, and 6 Magenta CLI-251XL Ink Cartridges (Total 30 Pack)

Do not print at home anymore. My Laser does not adapt to my computer( it was a 1993 model). It is really old and I wanted the Copy scan feature of many of the new printers. So went Ink Jet. Well I print so seldom that I have to put in new Cartridges each time I print. So it is now just used to scan.0 -
Not a good idea to buy ink in bulk unless you do A LOT of printing! Many printers not only monitor the ink level, but also the age of the cartridge. If it is beyond the expiration age the printer will not use it. 0 -

We ran into that at work. Lucky we were able to bypass it and use the cartridge anyway. But it did seem like that cartridge ran out way too soon.0 -
I've never had good luck with off brand ink and my Epson alerts me that I'm not using their ink and the pictures are terrible 0 -
I used inkjet printers for many years. Heck, I'm so old I used dot matrix! I bought a H-P color laser jet pro about 4 years ago and love it. The main problem I had with ink-jet was trying to print SolidWorks models. 2-D prints were fine but the solids left me with a soggy piece of paper - plus it was eating ink like crazy. 0 -

We have an Inkjet at work I only print pictures sent from customers on it and some of them the paper comes out curled up from so much ink.
I have a Laser in my Office and that is what I print solid works to. Except the really large prints and that goes to the Plotter Think my largest there it 24 x 72.
It to will curl up a page if what is printed to it is not just a 2d line drawing.0 -

I've been using a Brother MFC-J430W multi-function scanner/fax/printer for several years. It does a good job with only a few quirks mostly related to my caveman office set-up. I buy ink at Staples when I can and save $20 per refill. My current work involves scanning and emailing my work rather than mailing in so I use the scanner far more than I have in the past. 0 -
Have a Epson WF-3640 inkjet. Have always had HP laser printers that gave me zillions of copies at very low cost. When I bought Lenovo with Win 10, I tried every trick in the book to hook HP Laser to Lenovo and Win 10. No go, and I finally gave up. Wife and daughter insisted I have color. So, ask me how much color work I do!
I am thinking how can they sell this Epson WF-3640 for only $119 in Wallyland. Now I know. It's not about the printer it's the ink dummy. These cartridges will keep you in the poor house. Worse yet when you run out of any colored ink, their software will lock you out of printing even if you only want black.
In fairness to Epson the printer works great and the color is nice but the cost sucks.If this thing ever dies it will go straight to the trash can and I will buy another laser printer.0
