New traffic signals with constantly blinking arrow
Somebody made a pile of tax money off this scam.
Instead of the standard "Left turn on arrow or yield on green" which seems to me worked just fine, now the left turn arrow blinks yellow constantly if the left turn doesn't have the right of way.
I find it confusing if I'm in the intersection waiting for the light to change so I can finally turn left when oncoming traffic must stop.

You know the rules; green is GO!
Yellow is GO FAST!
Red is hang on a second, it's changing to GREEN!0 -
We now have those. Always wondered why they needed them. Then I remember all the times I've been behind a car that would not turn.
Had to add it doesn't help idiots will sit there and wait for a green light.0 -
Downtown Bozeman NEEDS left turn arrows but there is none. Someone turning left off of Main street can create major issues. The street is 4 lane but no middle turn lane so those turning left must do so from the left lane. Hell, in Galliton county there may be 5 left turn arrows county wide. 0 -
We have lots of them. I find them to be great. How many times have you sat there with a red turn arrow when there was no oncoming traffic? That's exactly what the blinking yellow arrow is for. It means you can turn, with caution and when able. 0 -
I'm still trying to figure out how a yellow blinking arrow is confusing? 0 -

Funny ain't it?
"According to all of the research, it's proven a much safer permissive left turn because a yellow light means caution," whereas green means go, said Nora Jump-Scott, a VDOT spokeswoman.
According to the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, a left turn is one of the most dangerous movements drivers can make. Left-turn traffic signals are designed to let motorists know when to yield to oncoming traffic or when they have the right of way ? but many signals used nationwide can be confusing, the research program said.
So it conducted a study last year that revealed that the flashing yellow arrow was safer and more effective than the more common circular green light.
Nearly half of all states now have at least one flashing yellow arrow.(2010)

We have one locally that is on a left turn, I find it very hard to get used to the idea of turning left on a red light for the straight through side and a blinking yellow turn signal on my left turn side but I guess I will get used to it. 0 -
blinking orange means turn at your own risk.
it was designed to eliminate stacking the cars up for a left turn with no guarantee all will make it.
in order to have a green left arrow, oncoming must stop.
I first saw these out in the mid-west.
it must be in the new drivers ed booklets by now.0 -
Why morons sit at a green, refusing to enter the intersection to turn left is beyond my understanding. Pull the hell up, when the light turns yellow, CLEAR the intersection by making your left turn. 0 -
They work great here. Best thing to happen to traffic lights, IMO. The only people that seem to be confused by them are the same ones that sit and stare at a green light. 0 -
Except I got a ticket for doing just that "Ran a red light" It wasn't red but the judge sided with the officer. I don't "clear the intersection" anymore. quote:Originally posted by bpost

Hah! I not only got a ticket, (failure to yield) but got a ding in my front bumper from a woman who hit the intersection at the posted speed limit of 45 mph! (what she actually did was switch to the clear middle lane, and punched it)
(you really don't want to try to take out a Suburban with a Honda). [:D]0 -
My HOA petitioned (as did many others) long and hard for a signal at a nearby intersection, partly because of that dangerous left turn. Drivers were failing to properly yield to heavy oncoming traffic at the unregulated corner, causing multiple accidents and many close calls. The alternatives to yielding properly were to wait forever for a hole in the traffic, or just go and take your chances.
When we finally got the signal, we also got the blinking left-turn arrow, which pretty-much negates the effectiveness of the signal at this intersection, IMO. It does periodically cycle to dedicated red or green as well, but I would much prefer a simple red / green to the blinking yellow.
I'm not saying that this system is inappropriate everywhere, but it really doesn't work well at the referenced busy intersection.0 -
I always try and plan ahead most of my designated destinations with right turns. Not always possible but at least 90% of the time it works for me! 0 -

I believe that is the way ups and fed drivers do0 -
With current light technology, there are sensors in the left turn lane. If there are more than two cars waiting, the system will create a green turn arrow. If less than that, it will flash yellow.
This has two positive consequences: It really streamlines traffic at busy times, and it gives drivers a "Go when you can" ability at all times.
But it doesn't work properly if you hedge forward into the intersection because the system then thinks you already turned.0 -
I like them. Keeps it moving in my urban town 0 -
those damn blinking yellow arrows are totally pointless,,[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!] 0 -
You'd rather sit there on a red with no oncoming traffic? 0
