Socket and Wrench ?
Im working on getting my shop right and i need to pick out a socket and wrench set.
What would be the best? I have about twenty 5 gallon buckets of sockets and about 20 totes of wrenches.
Snap On is what i have the least of. I have enough Proto for complete sets though. Plus all the other brands.

S&K is a fine set of sockets if you have them, had mine for 40+ yrs. and never a problem.....many people are not familiar with them. Wrenches....most any American made works for me. 0 -
if you have bucket fulls just use what you have out if it breaks toss it and move on
for the most part any older USA made tools will out live most of us
I have noticed what ever I am working on does not care it the wrench is a snap on proto craftsman s-k .. and honest I do not care if my tools all match as long as they work
most of my life my tool sets are made up of what ever I found at a sale and a deal ( excluding the craftsman sets I bought )
I will add I wish auction sites like GB and flebay were around when I was a kid ( and youtube [;)] )0 -
To me the socket is the least on my concern, I want a good ratchet. I have thorwn many cheap ratchets in various directions. 0 -

I value my fingers and hands well beyond a cheep ratchet and have it let go as my hand slams into a sharp edge [:0][:0][:0]
or I am twisted like a pretzel took several attempts to get to the bolt / nut only to have the ratchet fail .. all the junk ratchets left my tool box many years and band aids ago [:D][:D]
I will add the ratchet wrenches are better than sliced bread I wonder how I got along with out them now [^][^] I will tip my hat to the inventor / company who got them to market [:p][:p] gearwrench was the first ones I remember

I'm quite often reaching for deep impact sockets that a the 6 point type so as to not round off the corners of sieze3d bolts/nuts and use quite a few standard 6 point sockets. (6 point sockets have their place.
I have my sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc organized in my shop so as I can find them readily, instead of in 5 gallon buckets. Digging around in a 5 gallon bucket or tub for a wrench would be a pain in the Axe for me.
AND when I get through working on something I put my tools back where they belong ready for the next job. I've seen guys that could not locate their wrenches from one day to the next. (and did not care)
These type guys should not have good tools they need plastic tools from the toy section at wal mart.[;)]0 -
Why does a person NEED a matched set?
With the blind kid and Grandkids helping me, I doubt any of my sets match(and a couple may have 2x of one size and 0 of the next).0 -
Most of my tools are Craftsman. However, most of the time I reach for my GearWrench tools as they are well made with ratchet built in box end and open on other end. They get the job done fast with minimum amount of tools and time spent. 0 -

Can't comment on tools, but Socket and Wrench would be a great name for a Pub, wouldn't it? 0
