new computer win 10 ???
going to have to buy a new computor with that win 10,,, comming off my 2003 xp that came with software programs all ready in it sorry not a geek here am i screwed??[:0] or does the win 10 come with software in the system looking at the 500.00 new dell tower

the only things i have added to mine has been chrome, a few blockers, and the book of faces. not much else is needed. 0 -

I heard that microsoft was having issues with updates. They update the better versions of 10 and actually downgrade and cancel the pro or other premium versions. They are working on a fix I guess.

The October 1809 update caused severe problems for some (lost personal files) and seemingly no problems for others. The 1809 update was pulled a few days after release and currently only the "Insider Program Members" have access to 1809 and the fixes for testing. The April 1803 update is the current latest update available.0 -

I got so frustrated with that damn update freezing my older machine that I ordered a new computer. It arrives tomorrow and now you tell me it isn't my machine's fault? Geez.
Oh well, it's probably time to retire my six-y.o. Gateway machine anyway. It's been a great machine, actually. But with an old style hard drive, it's on borrowed time. If it's off for any length of time, the cooling fan growls like a disposal until it warms up.
fordsix, may I make a suggestion? Instead of paying robbery prices to subscribe to MS Office (you don't buy it any more, you rent it) just download any version of Open Office. I use Apache and others use Libre, but either one is actually better than MS and totally free forever.
I also disable that godawful Cortana thing, and never use Bing.0 -

When Linux runs Quicken, I'll switch pronto. Until then, nope.
I've looked and can't find any Linux home finance program that comes even close to Quicken. I have two machines running Linux, and like it. Except for not running Quicken. I may use this Gateway as a Linux plus Wine testbed to see if that works for me. Dunno.0 -
10 is better than it was. Have computer set for automatic download but ask for install. Check for updates every month of or so, just to make sure.
Like Windows 7 better but it will no longer receive updates after Jan. 2020

Have 3 different android tablets. 2 older tables are used ONLY as alarm clock.
The android play store has 1000's of different programs. Out of all these programs I regularly use ONLY ONE, a money expense manager.
Enter all my overseas expense/income in pesos, buy coffee and pastry for two and enter $3,000 pesos, it's actually less but I round up all item's to the nearest 1,000 pesos, always end up with more pesos at end of month. Usually enough to buy a nice dinner for two.
The gps is turned off on the tablets used as clocks. Before going overseas I turn off gps and my phone.0 -

Most software these days is subscription based, and the programs are downloaded from the mfg. That's why you're not seeing much in stores. 0 -

I'm getting a new computer tomorrow to replace my 6-yo Gateway desktop. It'll come with Win 10 Pro. The first thing I'm going to do with the new machine is to let it run updates and then make a Recovery disk.
I've made a full backup minus the system files to an external drive, so my questions are: Can I simply do a Restore on the new computer to get all my files and programs on the new one? I want to keep the Win 10 Pro (the old one has 10 Home) but will the Restore replace Pro with Home?
I don't want to re-install all my software manually because some are long past their support dates and I'd lose all their updates (Quicken 2010, for example) and besides, that's a PITA.0 -

I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 about 6 months ago and have no problems. But 7 was fine, as was XP. Why do they keep messing with it?? 0 -

I found a program called Zinstall that automatically moves all your files, all your settings, and all your programs to the new computer. It isn't free, but it is worth my time and lack of hassle. I'll report how it works. 0 -

New computer came today. After I set it up and allowed it to install some Windows updates, i ran Zinstall. The first attempt failed, due to me missing a step in the instructions and also trying to use my wireless network to connect them (which is allowed, but they warn you it may fail - and it did). I repositioned the old and new boxes and connected them with an Eternet cable for the second try. Also went back and turned off all firewalls and anti-virus programs.
Fa ZAA! Zinstall cloned my old computer to the new one, including all my programs, settings, files, preferences, cookies...you name it. Everything works exactly as it did before, but on the new box. And it did successfully upgrade from Win 10 Home to Pro. It took one hour.
Summary: If you're getting a new computer, Zinstall is worth every penny in your time and aggravation.0
