Tropical Storm Matthew is still messing with me

I was surprised this afternoon to find out we are still trying to recover from the results of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Matthew. I still thank God I got through it as easily as I did. Other than being without electricity for a while it was more an inconvenience than anything else. One man lost his father and grandmother in a flash flood. Those tragedies make me feel foolish for complaining about a power outage.

When the Dan River finally got below flood stage and US-501 and US-58 were passable I thought the worst was over. Today I decided to ride out to Danville and see how things looked out there. Somewhere between Turbeville and Midway I got to a detour. When I had been on the detour for a fairly long time and I crossed the state line into North Carolina I decided I was on a detour to nowhere and turned around and came home. Turns out a sink hole took out part of US-58 and it didn?t show up until Monday.

The assistant resident engineer of VDOT said they are working on it as fast as they can, but they haven?t found the bottom of the hole yet. Sounds like it might be a while before I go back to Danville.
