Balance Budget and Paying off Debt
Don't look like Trump has a clue. UNLESS, there is some magic happening in the background.
I doubt that or we would be hearing alot of squawking from those on the government take.
Trump is behaving like a true politician, trying to spend us out of debt.
What's next, selling off National Parks to his real estate buddies?

Never going to happen. 0 -
He's done more for this country in the past two years than the last 3 presidents did put together. 0 -
The debt is far beyond the point of no return. It'll never be paid off. It costs over 350 billion smackers a year just to service the debt. 0 -
Depends on who you believe.
One little factoid not being reported from partisan scum media is tax revenues since the Trump tax cuts have been higher than ever. In fact they are breaking records each successive month.
Along the same line, more non-government jobs have been created during his presidency, 2.1 million in 2017 alone and unemployment is at record lows. Salaries and wages are going up for the first time since the 80s, and for the first time since the Seventies companies moving back to the USA.
There was an article on Drudge yesterday by fake native American Elizabeth Warren who is considered in the top tier of DEMOCRAT POTUS candidates saying she would not only repeal the Trump tax cuts but raises income taxes to 50%. Every key DEMOCRAT and nominee wants immediate repeal of Trumps tax cuts and they are enticing the masses with a universal basic income.0 -

That does not appear to be correct, Think it will ONLY be $310 Billion in fiscal 2018 which ends Sept. 31, 2018. Payment of the debt is 7.4% of the 2018 budget. Lower then the most recent HIGH number of 8.5% in 2008.
It does not help the Obummer "doubled" the national debt in 8 years and the U.S. had a low growth rate during his reign. ie: Nothing to show for 10 trillion dollars.

I consider the nation debt to the #1 priority. Illegal immigration #2
Trumpy is doing a good job lowering taxes and getting us on an even footing with trade but he needs to lead the charge on the debt.0 -

AGREED. I bet he'll tackle that after he fixes a bunch of other screw ups.
I like Trump because he makes just about all other politicians look REAL bad. And he really pisses them off by making them look so lazy and stupid.0 -

Yes, Obama was at the helm, but the GOP controlled at least one branch of Congress for most of his tenure.
Both parties are culpable and neither party or our current President have shown any desire to reduce the deficit in any substantial way. Interest rates are raising and may eventually hit a reasonable level, which means servicing of the debt will become more and more expensive.
Our current gross federal debt is approximately 105% of GDP and has held this for the past two years. The argument can be made that if the debt remains a constant percentage of GDP, we have a stable situation. I don't like that argument, as it allows for continual deficit spending so long as the economy is growing.
It would be great if the goal was a reduction in the annual deficit every year, but with the promises of non-restraint on the increases in SS and Medicare payout to buy votes, it will never happen.
While our politicians are the ones directly voting for these deficits, it is the voting public; those that will vote out of office anyone who promises to get a handle on spending, who are the root cause of the problem.0 -

NYTimes is a collective of DEMOCRAT partisan liars. They are the epitome of the partisan scum I mentioned in my first post.0 -
I very seldom get involved in all of this politic stuff but it seems to me that if we can just print money every time it is needed, then why can't we just write a check and pay off all of our debt?

Let's "what if" this. Barz should be pleased another what if scenario.
What if Trump balanced the budget (for real) and knocked down the debt by half by the end of his 2nd term.
Do you think the libs would still be putin him down?
Let's say Trump enlisted the help of Putin and the two countries worked together and created enormous wealth. Would they try and give credit to the traitor who was in the last administration?0 -
It's a lot easier to run the debt up than it is to pay it off. Just as running the debt up devalues the money paying it off would cause DEFLATION. Remember back when Clinton left office & there was a plan to pay down the debt? The Federal Reserve was going nuts worrying about the danger of deflation. 0 -
US money hasn't been backed by anything real for decades. It's just promises to pay by the federal government, exactly like your Social Security account. And it is the federal government that defines what money is, a piece of special paper with a fancy design on it, or a bunch of digital bits in a bunch of servers. In effect, the government could simply state that the debt has been paid. They wouldn't even have to print a 20 trillion dollar bank note, or mint 20 1-trillion dollar coins. They just have to do it slowly so as not to greatly impact the government credit rating. It's gonna happen folks! 0 -
The U.S. needs to increase the revenue and that is what Trump is attempting to do. The U.K. just waved the WHITE FLAG.

My personal opinion is Chima is close to a financial crisis and will negotiate to avoid a recession or worse. China is communist and not open but I do believe China is in trouble.0 -
Fire up the computer generated ones and zeros boys we need another five trillion or what ever. It is now just a number, one too high to understand or pay back. I just hope nobody points out the kings new clothes are a bit lacking... 0 -
We're never paying off the national debt, and no one is going to be able to call it anyways. 0 -
A lot of foreign countries owe us money and have for many years with absolutely no payback. A LOT of money!
I have heard that we owe China a lot of money and that makes up a large portion of our debt.
All we have to do is plug our noses and just wave nicely at China.
Pretty sure the politicians responsible for borrowing from China had their fingers crossed behind their backs anyway![}:)]0 -
No one likes the truth but the fact is we have simply not paid the taxes required to fund the lifestyle we have demanded.
Social Security, Medicare, and all the other Government funded expenses exceed income so we borrow.
All Americans (except those who don't pay) would have a lot less dough if we actually had to fund the lifestyle we spend to.
Imagine any politician who said we are going to raise taxes and cut spending to balance the budget LOL
Many claim SS would be solvent if not for the funds spent by the Government, however IOUs for that money exist, and Medicare revenues collected are a joke compared to what is spent.
Simple solutions, means testing, removing caps, and raising taxes on all Americans until paid off. We all have to do it as individuals how long can you defer debt on Credit cards, second and third mortgages Etc?0 -

What you say is basically true, just don't care for the wording. And no, raising taxes is not the solution. As pointed out in the pot topic, taxing pot will not fix the spending problem.
You mention taxing is not keeping up with lifestyle, which is only partly true. Some of us are taxed heavily and others are not. Some have a lavish lifestyle without earning it, others work and don't have that luxurious lifestyle.
The debt could be handled, but the spending has to be drastically revamped. As Shilowar mentions, we won't ever pay it off, because we know nobody can forclose so to speak, and that is dangerous territory. Our Nation should have enough integrity to take care of it's bills.
Trump don't seem to be cutting any spending, or the media is not tellig us what is being cut. I have to believe that if Trump was cutting any pet pork projects the libs would be screaming.
He saved the taxpayer a few bucks on the new presidential jet, at the expense of a private company. Sure, good move maybe, but wrong place to be cutting. Contractors need to pay their bills too, they are working people. But saving the left handed mosquito is where they need to be cutting.0
