Marlin model 97

It's my nephew's and he's thinking about selling it. What do you think a fair starting price would be if I can talk him into letting me list it on GB for him? I'll get better photos if I do list it, he didn't send me the best [:I]. The stock is cracked and there is a modern bolt in it, but the original bolt is still with the rifle.

    Why is/was the bolt changed out, and what condition is the bore in? My WAG, with the condition it's in, w/o a closer inspection would bring about $400 or so max. Not sure about the brass screw thru the wrist of the butt stock, and no visible screw heads in the lower tang in picture 5 though. Probably came due to the broken stock. The older case colored one's do well if in good shape. If it were mine, I'd start it at $99 and let 'er go with lots of good pictures. Hey, you asked...[;)]

    Thanks toad, at least you didn?t tell me to do a penny auction! That scares me to death and doubt my nephew would be willing to take that gamble.
    Regarding the bolt swap, it was done on the advise from the ?ask the experts? forum about 10 years ago when he acquired the rifle and I started asking questions about it. Didn?t want to risk damaging it with modern ammo so just put a new one in and kept the original bolt with the gun. The bore is shiney and rifling is visible, my highly untrained eyes think it?s not bad considering the age of the gun. The handful of times I have shot it, it grouped decent so I don?t think it?s worn out.
