Here we go again: Trailer Tire recommendations

Well, I found a decent trailer for a good price, so I bought it! I got a 35' Big Tex flatbed for $5300. Needs a couple of tires, and a few deck boards replaced, but not bad over all!

So, any recommendations on tires? I normally buy Michelin, and don't mind spending money on tires that will last.

Load range E or F is what I'm looking at.

    I use Maxxus tires, they are well thought of.

    Whatever brand You buy make sure you buy tires made for trailers. DO NOT buy tires made for pickups.

    Well yes, obviously. I'll be hauling 15k lbs or more, I don't think I'm going to buy the wrong tires. [:D]

    If you are going to be hauling 15,000 lb Plus, I would go a G rated Tire. I don't know how heavy your trailer is dry, but I'm sure it weighs more than 1600 pounds. And with a G rated Tire your total weight with trailer is 16,600 lbs max. That's of course if your trailer has 16 inch tires. If it has 17.5 inch tires, I would go with at least a H rated Tire if I were you. That's of course if their singles and not Dually's



    What size tires are on it?

    And what is the trailer rated at?

    Is it a dually or single?

    Also, you didn't say how much you're going to be hauling in your OP. And even if you did, I would give you the same warning.

    By the way, I have seen a lot of stupid people put E-rated pickup tires on Gooseneck trailers. And there's no way for me to know if you would be one of them or not.

    Heck I've seen a truck driver put E-rated pick up tires on a 35-foot gooseneck that was rated at 16,000 lbs. Just because they were a lot cheaper. And he knew better...

    how often?
    how far?
    what road surfaces?
    duals or singles?
    These are all factors in the load rating you need. Obviously, you don't want tissue paper tires but going overboard on load rating wastes money and may cause tread wear issues. Using tires so stiff they have little or no flex beats up the trailer in various ways.
    Re: Michelin
    I wouldn't buy a Michelin tire even if they were competitively priced and darned sure won't pay a premium.

    I had to put tires on my utility trailer a couple of months ago.All trailer tires I found were made in China.

    I have Goodyear Marathons on my car trailer.

    Looks like Goodyear is making a trailer tire in the US again.
