Stainless Ruger 10/22 ?

I went to the pawn shop today and they had a Ruger 10/22 with a stainless barrel for 179 dollars with a cheap scope with a bullet drop compensater. I have not heard of the name of the scope before.

I offered 100 for it and i was told that the least they could take for it was 120.00. That means they probably have 60 dollars in it.

Anyway it has rust spots or some marring on it. The gun is probably 80% on everything but the wood. The wood is pretty good though.

I know stainless does not rust so what would be good to clean up the barrel and receiver?

I have 1 Ruger 10/22 now 2 and 4 Marlin 60s. I like Marlin 60s.LOL

I have about 12 or more 22lr rifles.

    I had a Marlin 60 that gave me fits. I even took it to a gunsmith who replaced a part. It still jammed all the time. I have hated them since. I may be a little unfair to all the other model 60's.
    That was a good buy on the Ruger. I hope you get years of good service from it.

    Stainless will rust. I usually use bronze wool and Kroil to clean stainless if it?s bad or Flitz if it?s not. Do not use steel wool on stainless. I also sometimes use bronze wool and Kroil to rub down a wood stock to get some of the gunk off if it needs it.

    If you use steel wool on stainless steel, it will rub steel into the stainless and will rust real bad after that.

    if its a older model with a metal trigger just the trigger unit sell on the other big auction site from 40 - 70.00
    buy a new plastic one for about 20.00 -30.00 people have replaced with the older metal or target versions buy a barrel for about 20 or 30.00 and a factory stock also cheap
    the receiver and or the metal trigger housing set up is what most people want the rest can be replaced with inexpensive take off parts or how ever much $$ you want to toss at it
    for 120.00 I would have brought it home if a older ( metal trigger ) version
    Its been a few years but all the 10-22"s I have seen at local Gun shows sell for what a new one does ( no paper work is a big selling point ) and with the demand for the older ones I bet more than a new one

    400 series stainless will absolutely rust, as it has a high iron content. 300 series does not rust and is not magnetic... the easiest way to discern.

    His daughter is the manager at the pawn shop. He buys stuff there all the time. I would guess he has a pretty good idea of their markup.

    My father-in-law had the same problem with his model 60. One day we were walking a ridgeline rabbit hunting when he threw it off the cliff. We then drove into town and he bought a 10-22.

    My daughter is the manager and they have a basic rule that the lowest price they can go is double.

    If the item stays for sell they have more wiggle room to drop the price.

    Basically the longer something stays in the shop the better deal they can give you.

    However Mike is the district manager and i will get them to call him or if he is there he can cut a better deal.

    Hand tools, shovels and things like that i can get for little to nothing.

    Mike sold me a old single shot 22 for 10 dollars. Bubba decide to take an engraver and learn how to draw on a stock with that gun.

    They gun just came out of pawn so i had to pay 120. I could have got it cheaper if i waited 90 days but i do not think it would be there after 90 days.

    My daughter is the manager of the shop where she is at but they have over 20 throughout NC.

    She has rules she has to follow. She gets audited about every 3 or 4 months. Hand tools and yard tools are miscellaneous and i get them dirt cheap.

    A while back i bought 6 sawzalls for 100 dollars some with cases because they were 90 days old.

    After 90 days all they want is there money back.

    I have bought a lot of power tools especially air tools because when they go to sell them they do not work because the insides are not lubed. Just a little oil and a tap on the tool it will work again.

    I get a lot of battery tools because they lose the chargers and i will buy them for 1 dollar. Then 3 months later i will buy the charger because they can not find the tool. LOL
