Dog Is Acting Funny

Bear my 100+ baby licking machine who is half shepherd/mastiff is acting funny.

He is not acting like he hurts anywhere but he is moping around and is not acting normal.

I would take him to the vet but what is wrong with him.

    find any ticks on him ? if so could be Lyme Disease

    watch close for a day or two...maybe just some indigestion..my two have had short doses of garbage gut(vet term)...got a bad something from the yard ???

    You didn't give it anything like ibuprofen, or drop any of your meds did you?

    He gets Benadryl sometimes for allergies. The vet says that is ok.

    I am thinking it might be lyme disease. I could not find a tick but that does not mean there was not 1 there earlier.

    I am surrounded by woods and ticks are always a problem.

    Both dogs and the yard get treated for ticks but we still get them.

    Oh and thank you for the idea. I will definatly look into that.

    I can not have mt best friend sick.

    That might be why he keeps coming to me and sitting down beside me because he does not feel good.

    There are two things I check when I think my little girl is not acting right. One, is her nose cold and wet. If it's warm and dry, then she's got something and is sick, off to the vet. Two, watch her stool to see if it's runny or has blood in it. If it's just runny, then most likely something she ate that she shouldn't have. If bloody, then off to the vet with a sample of the stool.

    My daughter has a doberman that swallowed a corn cob. It got stuck in it's gut. It started acting sick and got progressively worse till it was just laying and couldn't move. This happened in a matter of hours. She got it to the vet, not knowing what it's problem was. The vet had to operate. About $1200. The dog is healthy as ever and dumb as hell. I guess my point is keep your eye on it closely and be ready to act.

    My dog feels that way when she has an abscess tooth.

    Had an old dog get heart worms and she felt tired and slow.

    you will be able to tell if your dog has lymes disease. they will limp or carry one paw. check their joints for swelling. I live in an area that is a very high risk for lymes disease.
    the sad part of it is my last pup i got had all her shots asap including the lymes shot, but at 6 months old she had been diagnosed with the diease.
    I ask the vet how. he said he didn't know, but would find some answers.
    he contacted the maker of the vaccine and was told that just like the flu there is many strains of lymes and there is only ONE vaccine at this time and it will not take care of all the strains

    Bear is acting better now but for 2 days he was just not himself.

    Both our dogs are inside dogs and i watched Bear poop and it was like it always is.

    Thanks for all the ideas. I would rather be sick than my dogs because at least i know what to do for me.

    Both dogs have had all of their shots and take heartworm medicine every month. Where i live heartworms are popular if the dog is not treated.

    I did not know they had a shot for lyme disease.

    I do know he goes to the vet every year and gets heartworm meds and a heartworm test and shots. I know of rabies, kennel cough, distemper and bordello i think.

    It might be some more thats all i know off the top of my head. LOL

    Im sure the vet will not miss a shot to make that money.

    Bear is the only dog that i ever had that you can give a pill to and he will swallow it all by itself.

    Our lab/pit mix will not eat cheese anymore because she found a pill in it one time so now it goes in a hot dog.

    grind pills up and bait with beef/chicken juice and tidbits... especially if that feeding is a little late...slurp/gone ...and keep liquid benadryl at the lake place for first response to copperhead bite
