    Assuming this is a real question the three pedals are : Brake , Clutch , and gas .

    The numbers on the shift knob represent the gears that you manually shift into by pushing in the clutch and repositioning the gear shift to the appropriate gear starting from 1 in the forward gear selection and increasing to the highest number of forward gears as you pick up speed. The R in the numbered shift pattern is for Reverse gear to back up.

    While in the army stationed in Germany I had a German Ford Taunus with 4 on the tree [:0] ...actually had two of them over the years I was there.

    1st Clutch I drove was an old dodge truck. It did not go well.

    The Knob in my Jeep does not show a shift Pattern just the Marine Corps Emblem. That might confuse a few of them.

    I didn't know anyone else knew there was a ford Taunus..I bought a ( I believe) a '62 or 63 Taunus,when I thought the VW's were to expensive..(I know what a dumbs--t).It had an electric clutch.I was fresh out of the service in 1963.

    Several years ago I drove an English Double Decker bus right out of Piccadilly Circle! Our home town transportation department bought it for tourist season sight seeing trips around our area.

    Not only was it a manual shift vehicle but you had to double clutch all the gears. The hardest part was driving from what we here in the states call the passenger side! Driving on the curb side of our American roadways had its moments!

    That driving on the wrong side over there makes it much easier to convert. Try driving an American military truck on the wrong side. You can not take a moment to relax or you forget and drive on the wrong side.

    \Was in Stutgart from Feb 59' to june 61'
    I Bought a 59 Taunus Station Wagon Because you could lay down the back seat for fun and games .
    It had a tiny 4 cylinder and four on the tre, very best MPG of anything I ever had and gas coupons were 10cents a gallon. Winston cigs were one buck a carton with the coupons everyone was Issued.

    A deutch mark was 4 marks to the dollar.

    I forced all my girls to learn and drive manual transmission vehicles when they got their license. My youngest just got her driver's license this month and her car is a manual. Theft is one of the reasons, but it's down there on the list:

    I feel it makes them a better, more attentive and less distracted driver.
    Their friends are less likely to borrow their car.
    It's an important life skill (we recently learned that a kid their age was fired after the car dealer he worked for learned he couldn't drive a stick, and couldn't learn the skill in a reasonable time period).
    It can help them out if they ever return to a dead battery in the parking lot.
