MP3 players
What's a good one for someone on a tight budget?
A friend decided since I'm turning Baby into a bagger I needed to go all the way with tunes. Sooo, she gave me one of these the other day. Actually, ordered it off amazon and it arrived yesterday.

Dad gave me his little Sandisk several years ago, but it won't hold a charge more that two or three hours and it's got a bunch of other junk on I don't use.
What it is, the first time I hooked it up to my computer to charge and download music it automatically sync'd to my computer and downloaded all of my folders/files. Music, pictures, videos, documents, you name it, it's on there. Plus the internal battery won't hold a charge.
Guess what I should ask, does anybody make on Just for music without all those other folders? Or at least one that won't decided on it's own what to download when I go to put/add music onto it?

Does anybody know what the average song per gigabite ratio is? I've heard the you can get 10000 songs on a 40GB. Any truth to that. Thanks in advance!!!! 0 -

it's what I have.
they don't make MP3 players much anymore because, instead, people put mp3's on their telephone and listen to the music with a blue tooth earplug. or they use an i-phone, which wouldn't sell at all if it was only a phone; or an i-pod, which basically plays m4a's instead of mp3's.
I never have been satisfied with mp3 players. either they were those cheap little square ones that they give away free, or weird rectangular ones that don't make any sense when you try to use it.
when this Sony NWS23 came out in 2004, it got quizzical reviews from all the tech talking heads because they thought it looked strange. well guess what, it's one of the few that actually make sense when you try to work it. so what do they know.
the listing on Amazon is waaaaay overpriced, and leads you to believe that a 'new' one cost $199. but... they don't make them anymore. and I really doubt they cost that much new in 2004, and do you think anything electronic is going to be the same price in 2018 as it was when it came out in 2004? no, it's completely obsolete by now and you could hardly give it away.
the used ones are listed at $40 or so, but that is also overpriced. last time I checked 6 or 7 years ago, they were going for $24 used.
if you can find one, it should be less than $25, and $10 would be more like it. I promise you that is the mp3 player you want. or something similar from Sony.0 -

That's more like what I'm looking for. Power on, power off, volume up and down with no screen or swipe this way and that.

It's within my budget, and it's waterproof. Throw it in the windshield bag, and not worry about the liquid sunshine I somehow enjoy riding in.[:p]0 -

I was actually sold on that little Sony, but then saw a newer, discontinued, 521 mgb. When I read the reviews someone commented on the software is no longer available. Could probably find it online somewhere, but don't care to spend the time digging it up. 0 -

I went digging around on my computer. I have the drivers, user manual and file manager software, which should also work with the 512 Mb version. I could have emailed those to you, but then I also read my notes on it. introduced in 2004, cost 100-130 new, was going for 25$ used in 2011, and ONLY WORKS ON XP. there are no drivers for Win7, may or may not get it to work w/o drivers, but it will not work with 64-bit computers.
so it really is obsolete.
when you decide on an MP3 player, double check that it works on your version of windows.0 -
