Should They Have Killed The Bears?
I understand why they killed the Bears. I just do not think they should have killed them.
The people were in the Bears woods invading there place of habitat.
If they attacked in town that would be different.
I have seen 5 bears in the woods and i love bears.
About 4 or 5 years ago my wife and i were on vacation in the mountains and we watched a bear come right under the porch we were sitting on.
The bear was about 10 feet below us. I could have poured my drink on his head. LOL
The only gun i had for protection was a 380.[:(]

That whole story is a sad one. The guide had bear spray but could not deploy it. The hunter basically ran away.
The Moma bear attacked the guide with no hesitation and the yearling from what I have read did nothing.
Those guys were in the back country so if they captured the bear and took it some place else its not sure if she would not attack a human again.
But to answer you I am not sure, its like the Cat in OR.0 -

Big difference between a Black Bear and a Grizzly. REAL big!!
Although a Black can be aggressive, it doesn't seem to happen too often. A Grizzly? There is a reason Grizzlies were almost wiped out years ago!0 -
People going into the bears home..........
People are more and more, everyday, invading into the bears home space.
Most bears will go the other way when people come around. Some are just curious and will look you over and move on, a few will come at you like you owe them money, with a lot of interest.
Some people are way to stupid to be in the woods. They don't look around, they clean their fish and throw the guts just outside where they camp, they leave food out in the open, their trash is just dumped anywhere.Bears like food. They are giving the bears FREE food.
Respect the fact you are in a bears space. Your mother didn't come along, so clean up after yourself.
In the past 20 years, I have hunted 6 times in griz & brown bear country. Always with a partner. We both carry large caliber revolvers, that we know how to use, plus our rifles. We don't camp there. We are always watching around us. We don't leave any trace of what we eat. Have I ever seen a griz or brown? Nope. Have I seen tracks over our tracks, yes.
Just wish people would remember they are in the bears house. There would be a lot less problems.0 -

i have told my grandkids to visit zoos or learn about the large animals because when they get older it is doubtful many species will be left ...we are taking their habitat and food resources and changing climate in areas will trend die offs....all because we assume superiority 0 -

They did confirm that Mark did indeed deploy the spray. Maybe he just sprayed in a way that was ineffective. The Sow had residue on her.
Yes, the bears should have been killed IMHO, there is also some speculation by the Feds now that the dead sow possibly was the bear that killed a lone researcher to the North east in Sept 2014

Dave and Jim that is what I thought too when the survivor said she came out of nowhere and attacked without and warning.
She was hunting people.
I have had one confrontation with a Brown bear(I think it was a Black in a brown phase) I was Turkey hunting in ID. She had a cub up a tree. I had an Over and under with turkey shot in it.
We both decided to retreat.
I feel sorry for the guides family.
How is the fire up there? I wish we could transport some of the flood water from here to put out the fires.0 -

Cranking right along at ~ 32,000 acres today, one structure lost last night, ~ 230 homes evacuated and homes on The Rim in SET stage. Word is if it moves to GO, then they will closes highway 191.
Only blessing so far is that due to prevailing wind direction and nature barriers, direction of travel of main fire, it seems a this point my buddy's hunting camp may be spared, but it is a long way from over.
What we need is a heavy wet early fall snow storm to dump on us.

The bears had the option to leave but chose to attack, next time they made contact with humans most likely the same thing would happen.
I've seen bears in the woods, too(and I shot one of them BTW).
When I went into bear country, I went prepared to kill another if need be.0 -
There's some unanswered questions in this case but, from what I've read, seems pretty clear the bears needed to be put down.
If the victim had worn his sidearm on his hip, instead of bear spray, and had killed both of the attacking bruins, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
That the bears were killed after the victim died doesn't change the fact that they should be dead.0 -
