Laptop Help Please
My IT guy highly recommends this one. Has anyone used this unit??

Ricci it sounds like a nice unit but honestly, computers are merely a tool. I would get a large screen, extra ram and a large HD, and go from there. Honestly I now just use a desktop at work and a ipad works for the rest of the time.
Check into a cheapo tablet for web browsing , you will be surprised how much easier it is to hold and work over a laptop. Again bigger screen is better on the tablets. I dont like working on a laptop much anymore unless its sitting at a counter or table

I only use a laptop for travel, and I just ordered a Dell Chromebook for that purpose. $120 on Woot.com $134 delivered. Coincidentally, I also just upgraded my desktop to a Dell, also from Woot. Both are four year old machines, factory refurbished.
If a laptop were my only or main computer, I'd opt for a better one and then get a cheapo tablet or Chromebook for travel. But $1300? Not for something that goes obsolete in a year or two.0 -
Whatever you get, get one with a solid-state hard drive. Costs more, but will run circles around one with a conventional hard drive. 0 -

I'm not sure what you use your laptop for, but for my use, I wouldn't look at anything less than an i7 CPU and less than 16GB RAM. 0 -
I wouldn't pay that much for any system that only had an I5 processor. Dell has been running laptops with i7 processors all week for under 1,000 bucks.

I just bought two of the 8th generation for less than your price with better RAM and SSD. Maybe Lenova like me better...[;)]
It's impossible to use a 15.6" laptop when flying nowadays unless you're in First Class.[:(!] The seats just don't allow for it. I got a tablet with a keyboard in the case cover for traveling. Much better!
For drafting and engineering type stuff I've been using the Lenova Tiny series Think Center. It's like an all-in-one except that the Tiny sits on the back of the Think Center 23" screen. No muss, no fuss, no mess. This is my daily driver of computers.

Thanks guys. My desktop is slowly coming apart and I was thinking I would replace it with a laptop. My main use will be for doing my GunBroker so something that?s not too slow and will handle the photos I need to post and email. I don't do any online banking or anything so I probably don?t need a ton of memory.i have an iPad but I thought a laptop would be much better. 0 -

Photos take lots of hard disk space, IMO and so having 1TB hard drive is pretty nice for that.0 -
A terabyte external SSD is less than $75 now. Just plug it in and go. Then there's that cloud thing. I don't use it but I'm told it's safe and secure. 0 -

I'd agree with those who say $1300 is too much money for an I5 computer for the average user AND Dell is a good choice. I've used Dell systems for 15+ years and all three still work. Don't damage them and if they work for a month, they will probably work forever.
Have lots of photos and keep 3 sets of backups on external HDD. NO Way a 256GB SSD would ever work for me on the computer. The 1TB USB external hard drive for backups costs less than $60.00 and set to backup every sunday.
Have 4.01 GB photos, 250,000+ images in 1,024 folders.
PS: once a year run a file transfer to USB thumb drives.0 -

I have used them thru work over the years and Lenova was OK but my preference has always been with HP for my personal laptops, I look for the best deal with a great sound system and lots of memory and a large hard drive and a well known processer, then you hope for the best and have done well over the years. 0 -
