Why does no one make a modern 8ga?
I think if a company came out with a commercially available shotgun chambered in 8ga it would sell like crazy, for a little while anyone, at least until everyone that wanted one got one. A company like Remington that already makes shotguns, they could just adapt a single shot design like the H&R or NEF pardner that they own and they make ammunition so all the have to do is make a 3.5oz load of 8 shot and bam! They have something everyone would be talking about.
Legalities of it are simple, the bore is too big so it would have to get approval of the Attorney General that it had a "sporting purpose" and, which they have said shooting clay pigeons is a sporting pigeons.
Serious question, what am I missing? Yes, I realize it will kick extremely hard but blackpowder 8ga guns back in the 1800's were not real common but also not unheard of either.

not sure if there is a real need/following for the 10ga, seems 8ga would be more of an oddity than a real need. 0 -
I no where near being some one that could say why
my best guess as modern powders and shot came along they could do the same as the massive amounts of powder and shot in the old 8 and 10 gauge guns
I am sure people would buy some just to say they had one
the cost of the shells I could see being crazy also thinK of the millions of 12 ga guns and countless millions of shells produced each year making them inexpensive . to tool up to load a 8 ga would require more money that some company would want to invest
also I would bet company's like Remington have done study's on the possible market of such guns
how many places do you see 10 ga shells other than maybe a gun shop now0 -

I believe in most states 10 gauge is the largest shotgun that is legal for most game. And certainly miagratory birds. Steel shot?
Ever carry an 8 ga? They were for waterfowl. So they spent time getting carried around boats because they are too damn heavy!

I have a Schattuck 8 gauge and it's a cannon! Single shot and built like a tank with a 36 inch Damascus barrel. A real beast!
I also have a 4 gauge cartridge single barrel howitzer!
Most men could barely lift it much less shoulder it!

I had a 10 ga single shot 36"barrel maybe by a H&R ? been a long time ago no fun too shoot and currently a remington pump gun in 3 1/2 magnum is not so great after more than a handful of rounds . friend had a double barrel 10 Ga you could pull both triggers same time . it was a butt kicker [:D]
granted I am a lot older and do not shoot no where close to the rounds I use too but I can still dump a bunch of target loads thru my 1187 or 1100 and not complain

There is scant demand for a 45/70 revolver or a semi auto .380 necked down to 32acp as well but yet they are made.
What I'm getting at is that companies are bringing out different ideas all the time, usually with poor results, I'm surprised no company has brought back the 8ga. Is it something they'd sell 100,000 of? Probably not but I bet more 8ga guns would get sold than 32naa guns got sold.0 -

Recoil would probably be a bitch.
My Dad had a 12ga 42 inch single barrel that would cross my eyes every time I shot it... Don't know why because other 12ga didn't bother me much.0
