How do you tell them they are lying?
When a customer brings in a gun for repair and wants it done under warranty, and it is as clear as day that they or some one screwed up the gun.
This morning, Remington 870, the bolt is in a plastic bag the rest of the gun is assembled. Older gentleman says that his grandson was shooting at a turkey when the parts "just flew out". He wants me to send it back to Remington for warranty service. Ok...........I am being careful not to hurt the guys feelings about his grandson. BUT, the kid lied to grandpa and grandpa is here to get Remington to fix the gun. Ah, no..... Tell him that the only way the bolt comes out of an 870 is you have to take the barrel off. "Are you sure?" he asked me. Yes, I'm sure. Please watch and I show him. Now, he is starting to think that something is up with the grandkid..........
Ruger Single Action............ Locked up tight as a drum. Customer wants me to send it back to Ruger for warranty as the gun locked up while he was shooting. Ok.....The gun locked up while you were shooting it, how come I don't see any case rims by the back of the cylinder? No, no... It locked up on the last shot. Ok, but there still isn't any cases in the cylinder. Well send it back to Ruger, I bought it here last month. Now do it. Sure, but this isn't warranty, every one of these screws on the gun is burred and marred. This gun has been taken a part and not assembled correctly. Now he calls me a lair, says the gun came out of the box that way. He wants the manager, I turn around 360 and go Hi! can I help you? Told him Ruger doesn't ship guns with burred up screws. Ten he says, " Well, maybe my brother in law did this."
One of the best.................. Guy has a Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag. The top strap and 3 of the chambers are blown off. He wants warranty because the timing was wrong on the gun. Says he shoots FAST, real FAST and the guns timing was off that when he was shooting FAST, the cylinder came around so quick and the hammer fell, that the round caught up with a bullet that was still going down the barrel....................

yes I have had people bring their firearm in a box and tell me it just fell apart
I show them the statement in the catalog that XXX the seller is not responsible for firearm problems and neither am I

I made it my rule to NEVER buy or trade for a gun that had Bubba'd up screw slots, which usually were accompanied by scratches and gouges. Anyone who uses their Grandpa's carpenter screwdriver to "try" to disassemble the gun probably didn't put it back together correctly. Had to pass on some otherwise great firearms, but don't want someone else's headache.
Rounded out socket heads are another red flag. Use the correct wrench, Fool! [:(!]0 -
My Taurass just fell apart when cleaning it. Not happy about that. Luckily I found all the little parts and then locktited the darn things. 0 -

Don't know how many times we have said Send Us a Picture. Deal in Irrigation Fittings and Valves.
Best is when you can tell them Look close at the Photo and take the valve out and turn it around cause its backwards. See the direction of flow arrow on top. It will be pointing at the pump end not away.0 -

When "on the job" I would listen to both sides and then figure that the truth was somewhere in the middle.
The best in the shop was by a repeat moron that I flagged but the owner allowed back in. He was thrown off the range when the .22lr AK he just bought mysteriously went full auto. When I opened it up, it looked like Bubba attacked the sear & hammer with rasp. But of course, it came that way.0 -

When I started reloading I had a Redhawk in 44 mag. I did feel the needing getting every bit of velocity out of it that I could. I learned a lot. I also made a nearly indestructible revolver "loose". I cant imagine blowing up a redhawk.[;)][;)]0 -
