    That was something that was very prevalent in the early Auto rifles and MG's.

    Most of the IJA MGs had it and so did the IT designed BREDA's

    Yes, but this particular implementation was wonky in an otherwise elegant design.

    The only gun I have ever handled that had a felt pad cartridge oiled system was a Japanese imperial army light machine gun...

    It comes up in many of the older reference books but seems like lost data to most folks - including experts and aficionados

    I always thought the .276 caliber rifle cartridge was quite elegant and advanced for its time - but was shot down due to all of our previous long guns were chambered for .30-06 and we had quite a bit of ammo in storage

    There was a concern over having to supply and differentiate two cartridges of similar design and dimension in our to&e

    Many folks also don't realize that the Italians and the British both had large numbers of arisaka bolt action rifles in there possession prior to the war

    The Italians had some Japanese machine guns - as well as British machine guns...

    Or that the Japanese had a large number of vehicular or crew served - armor or air frame use machine guns in .303 British chamberings

    And I always thought the Japanese rimmed versus semi rimmed versus rimless cartridge weapons rather confusing or an invitation to disasters

    I think that many are unaware of the 7.7 / .303 caliber Japanese versus British cartridge dimensions and nomenclature issue (that they are different cartridges entirely)
