I got a $2.44 nasty gram from my mortgage holder. The helpful, cheerful and AWESOME lady at the Meigs County Ohio tax office looked up the error. SHE CALLED THE BANK. SHE FIXED THE ERROR.

Stop talking on the phone; take your receipt and copy of check to the tax office and have a face-to-face and tell them you are not leaving until THEY correct the error. If they don't it is election time and a nice letter to the editor makes elected azzhats nervous.

Had an episode up North (NY/NJ area.) 72 hour warning, my house was up for sale, due to "non-payment of property taxes."

My Property taxes were withheld by my Mortage Co. and they were to pay the Property taxes. (In order to make sure they were paid.)

One pretty Pissed off phone call to my Mortgage company, to fix this Sheeit, post haste. Fixed that crap.

    Hope you make out okay.

I owned an 800 sq. Ft. 1948 Chestnut Log Cabin on about 1/10 acre on Greenwood Lake NY/NJ. $5000 dollars a year in Property taxes. (KMA!)

Could not Wait to get the F out of there. I now pay approx, $450/yr. on 3 acres and a much nicer, larger house.

You own your Property, unless they say you do not. "F" that Anti-American Bull crap.

Amazing how ignorant people manage to get jobs with government agencies. And with other businesses as well.

I would ask your attorney if it would be worth while to file a law suit and ask for attorney fees, and other compensation for what you are having to put up with.

No matter what a letter to the local editor would be the minimum I would do.

I could tell you a couple personal stories but this is not the time or place.

I bet they are bummed that you have records from 5 years ago - and would not be surprised if they don't have the same records. [;)]

You should consider yourself lucky. If it was the IRS, you would probably owe another $10,000 in fees, penalties, and interest. [:D]

Yep...mortgage companies have foreclosed on people's homes and the folks had proof they'd never missed a payment....all sorts of BS. And folks wonder why office buildings get shot up.

First question. It's from 2013 for $44.20 and no interest? That is one kind county.

Second question. Did the lawyer costs more than $44.20?

    That is crazy.

It sounds like the idiots that walked me through paying my sales tax are working in your property tax office. Those morons walked me through how to file my monthly sales tax on line using their website in 2013 (same year as your mess) and I've done it that same way every month for all these years. They finally showed up and did an audit. I've been doing it wrong. So, guess who has to pay all the back taxes and such from now until way back in 2013......yep, me. It doesn't matter that they showed me how to do it. I've put the total in the wrong silly box and it was taxed under the wrong rate....half what I should have been paying. Its not a huge figure, but its enough to frustrate someone.

Agree, the people that fail in business can usually find work in government. Bad attitudes and abrasive personalities guarantee immediate hire.

no. 2....had a younger gal get elected country treasurer and from day one she asked co comm for a raise every meeting ...after about 2 years one of the comms asked what pay scale she wanted and she said the same as the county clerk..he told her "then you should have ran for that position NO"..she then used $9000 dollars of her office funds to buy high end furniture for the office so co comms docked her budget $9000. i helped with electioneering to get another person elected next time

The tax they say is owed is $23.69. The rest is interest and penalty.

My lawyer is no charge at this point, I keep his Benelli shotguns clean............Bartering is good.

    What a timely post, 44Pinshooter.

I received a 'notice' in the mail a month ago from the Ill-Noise State Treasurer. Seems my taxes are in arrears by $9.00 dollars from 2016.

SO - I wrote the check, and sent a little note with it saying,

"Here is the $9.00 dollars for my 2016 tax bill. It is clear why Ill-Noise is entering bankruptcy, as it cost Ill-Noise 4 times as much as the $9.00 to collect this massive sum. Good Luck in the upcoming job search when your state hits the financial crapper in 6 months. Love and Kisses, Mike".

    Good Times.
