GARDEN STATE PARKWAY SUCKS
About 30 years ago I went on Garden State Parkway with my Chevy 1500 pickup and at first toll gate fella warned me to get off at next exit or State Police would give me a ticket. So I got off. No problem no ticket.
Fast forward, yesterday my second time ever on the Garden State Parkway. I needed to pick up a small gun cabinet in Clifton, NJ. Seems a lot of folks are selling gun cabinets in Jersey, I wonder why! I called NJ State Police and Trooper was very helpful. Told me " If the GVW is less than 10,000 pounds you can go any where on Garden State Pkwy. If truck is over 10,000 pounds you can only drive south of exit 105. Checked GVW on truck and was 7,200. Great, I am good to go to Clifton, NJ from upstate NY. Bear in mind two different sets of directions from map quest put me on Garden State Pkwy.
Got on Garden State Pkwy. and got off at correct exit. No problems and no tolls. Picked up gun cabinet and owner gave me much better directions for return trip. Very small Garden State Pkwy sign for off ramp on 46 and no other sign. Drove about a hundred yards I guess, and I come to this unmanned collection bin with a sign that says exact change only and camera survey. I can't go the wrong way in reverse. What the hell do I do now? I look in bin and it is blocked up with some change and a couple of dollar bills at bottom. I think the light in front of me was green the whole time. So, I took a dollar bill out and waved it for the camera and threw it in the bin instead of the fifty cents required that I did not have. This was the dirtiest, nasty, rusted, overgrown with weeds collection point I have ever seen. Reminded me of an abandoned gold mine in Nevada or Alaska.
Off I went through the green light and entered the Garden State Parkway. I came to a toll gate on the Garden State Pkwy. in about a mile. I paid the toll and got my receipt. I explained what happened to the toll collector and she said I would get a ticket in the mail for $50. She also said it was disgusting and bordered on entrapment. No warning sign on RT46 about exact 50 cent change required ahead.
Anybody please.
1.Is it possible the camera saw me put the dollar in the bin?
2.Should I fight this in court if I get a ticket? It is a long drive down there.
3.If I fight a ticket what are my chances of winning?

Years ago you couldn?t drive a truck on the parkway. Then when non business people started driving pickups you could drive on the parkway but not if you had commercial plates. Then you couldn?t drive a van without windows so they invented ?parkway windows? If the light was always green I don?t think you will get a ticket. It was probably stuck on green on purpose. They used to have envelopes sitting at unmanned booths and you were trusted to send in your dime. I remember when those small entrances were 10 cents. 0 -
I ran one coming into Bordentown a few years back. Stopped and called the toll folks and they said not to worry about and if I got a letter to pay it. It?s been thirteen years and so far I haven?t gotten a bill. [:)] Thank God I don?t have any reason to go to N J any more. I do miss WaWa coffee. 0 -
Since EZ Pass the electronic toll system was implemented. They have not filled many of the jobs once held by toll collectors and other staff for maintenance. The GSP is a big money maker for the state. Since you did the right thing. Dont sweat it... 0 -
I'm not exactly sure but I think they will bill your plate first.
I've had 3 violations and had 3 dismissed.
If you were in one with a plugged basket most likely you'll won't get a violation.0 -

if it is like florida it goes to the tags, this happened with my son and I in florida, except we had a rented van, the ticket came back to enterprise, my son knew the fellow who worked a rental lot, told them what happened and never got a fine...... don't know who paid it0
