battery ?????

changed the batteries in my trailcam yesterday, the ones in it were less than a week old, duracells AAA. got home and went to throw them away decided to test them out of curiosity,
4 showed 1.53, good
1 showed 0.03, dead
1 showed -0.22, ??? how do you get a negative reading on AAA battery, wouldn't it be pulling voltage? seemed odd to me
all six were brand new out of package and lasted less than a week

    Reverse the leads.

    leads were put on the same way on all batteries that is what didn't make sense negative on flat, positive on tit

    That one went completely dead and quit producing a output voltage and the others were sending current thru it which resulted in a reverse charge.

    AND when several AA or AAA bat's are used, one or two bad apples can ruin the whole barrel.

    A more reliable test for the C, D, AA, AAA bats is a short circuit AMPERES output test instead of voltage. I built a tester just for testing the amps output of the small dry cell bats, but you can use a vom that has a 10 amp DC scale such as the Simpson 260 vom. Some of the old Triplett's have a 12 amp DC scale.

    I'm thinking about trying returning some of the Bats to wal mart CS for warranty. (just to watch their face and explanation) The warranty claims listed on some of the battery packs, 5 year warranties claimed. (yea sure)
    They won't last that long in trail cameras, or even on the shelf.[;)]

    Okie never knew that could happen, figured when went dead it was dead, never thought it could reverse itself....... thanks

    What brand trailcams? I had an issue with a couple Moultries draining batteries. Ended up being the wrong brand SD cards. Changed em out and installed Sandisks and batteries now last months.

    it is moultrie, I sent it back last year as it was eating batteries, company claimed I had to use energizer, which didn't last full week either. but still sent me a new one, new one lasted all of last year and took about 400-700 pics week never had to change batteries, put fresh ones in last week didn't get 400 pics and only 3 days till batteries died. same cards as last year not sure if just bad battery or if the camera is leaking we got bad storm mid week which was about when the camera died, as there is no rubber seal when close it up???
