Mom Doctor appointment Tomorrow

My sister and i are taking my Mom to the oncologist tomorrow. She has lung cancer.

I want to ask the doctor some questions that i do not want my Mom to hear.

How can i do that without upsetting her?

    Make your own appointment, otherwise your mother deserves to hear the doctors report.

    If I did that with my Mom she would be far more upset being treated like a child than hearing the bad news. Mom is going to be 80 next week and would kick my butt if I did that....


    Your Mom may be a different personality type....either way Dave, I hope you all get the answers you need to care for her the best way possible..It is tough when our folk's health issues become difficult amd life threatening...

    let your sister take her out, then say I forgot something mom, walk back in and ask your question.

    Don't know about your privacy laws but where I live the doctor could not discuss your mothers medical records with you unless she signs a waver.

    yes she does but the kids need there questions answered too. My mother would not tell her doctors what was wrong, we went through a few till the last new one I went with her to, I told the nurse at the check in desk her complaints and to tell the doctor what was wrong with her and she wasn't freely open with her condition. He ask questions that he knew she would answer, after just one visit she thought he was some kind of god, he knew exactly what was wrong with her, and each visit after the nurse would take her to get her weight and the doctor would ask me if there was anything he needed to know, this was much easier than argueing with a 90 year old woman, yes mom may have gotten mad if she had known, but she would do what he said and take "his medicine" where the others she just ignored. sometimes a few white lies don't hurt, but each case is different
