A new look for an old friend
Installed Williams rear peep sights and front Fire Sights on my old Marlin .30-30. I just can't ever seem to get the eye relief how I want with scopes. I'll admit, the fire sight on the front looks a little out of place....but I figure this will be a handy little rifle when hunting in low light.

I think you will enjoy shooting it much more.
I love Peep Sights, I like to pair them with a flat blade front sight but I think the fire sight will be fine.
Is that you hunting rifle? I really like a 30 WCF for deer hunting inside 150 yds. Such a great caliber for deer and fun at the range shooting cans or even a rock on the backstop.
Have you seen the skinner sights?
I have a set on a marlin 1895 in 45/70 and they work great.
I have 2 Winchester 94s in 30 WCF. One is a 20" Carbine the other is a custom 16.5", The 20 rifle has Lyman receiver sights the other redfield. Both are pre 64 made in the 50's when they were drilled for receiver sights.0 -

It was a hunting rifle I got back in 1994 as a Xmas present from my Grandfather. I had taken my first deer the previous fall with a borrowed rifle from someone else.
I took it hunting that next fall....and for reasons I still really dont understand, I never went hunting again...and for reasons I also can't explain, I intend on going deer hunting this fall with an experienced friend.
Yes, I saw the Skinner sights, they were my original choice...but I ended up going with the Williams sight because it was easier for me to figure out what I needed to order from Brownells as opposed to Skinner's website. [:)]0 -
I would've scoped it. What rail system did you try? I got XS on my 1895GS. My issue was I bought a scout scope by Vortex. It claimed the eye relief was 9" or there abouts but it turned out it was closer to 14". Ran out of rail on my 1895GS but it was fine for my Mini-14. I should go to the range and make sure it doesn't have other issues. 0 -
I like it - I did nearly an identical install on a norinco officers model SKS - a Marlin model 336 in .35 rem - and a model 1891 Argentine Mauser cavalry carbine in 7.65 mm...
I love the vintage look and configuration of your lever gun especially the overall finish on the stock and the checkering on the forend and straight wrist...
The Williams fiber optic fire sight is a very useful upgrade
When combined with the rear peep aperture
Good mods.

I just cannot get to liking those fiber optic sights, remind me too much of Walmart somehow. I went with an Aimpoint on my Model 94 Trapper. It looks weird too but helps old eyes. Best of luck in the hunt! 0 -
put a small reflex/holographic sight on my 1895 lever action, can be seen well without need for bifocals and can follow moving target easily also, iron sights even fiber optics are hard to use when you need bifocals. just a cheap $25 dollar one from internet but it has worked great for 2 years 0 -
