was just raided

oldemagics
so Pa finally after years, decades actually, decided to legalize a small number of fireworks
have had a small handful of old bottle rockets sitting for unknown years and decided since the g-daughter was here would see if i could get them to fire

sparklers in with them were all duds, few loose inchers went band but with un reliable fuse burn, but the first couple rockets worked!
as i lit one, a black suv with tinted windows came around the corner and stopped
figured it was just some locals looking
four, YES FOUR bomb squad goons poured out and blocked off the front porch!!!
didnt get any fine, but confiscated the rest of the rockets

turns out they are legal but cannot be used within 150 yards of any occupied building

overall they were decent guys, told them they were so old i was surprised they even lit
told them all i knew was they were supposed to be legal now, but no one ever mentioned any restrictions
they just laughed and said "why mention restrictions, might lose a sale"

    If you like to shoot off fireworks just move to Florida. ALL of the exploding variety are illegal here, but no law enforcement agency pays any attention even if you call.

    Before any holiday, circus tents are everywhere selling the stuff in full view of everyone.

    It pretty much sounds like Baghdad here right now.

    My neighborhood for the passed twenty years has had had few and meek fireworks. Tonight the place is full of rockets,m80's,star bursts etc.
    Why the change? Celebrating the swamp drainage?

    you would swear you are in a war zone here now!!
    i just happened to be one of the few at that moment and an old man on the porch with a small girl was an easy bust

    stuff going off 2 blocks up are larger and better than the stadium puts on after a game, and dont hear any sirens going either...

    oh well watch the neighbors money go bang for a while and maybe get some more for next year

    AH, the perks of "rural life".
    Anything goes as long as I don't damage the neighbors' windows. So, I just keep the blast radius under a mile and all is good.

    PSP say 150 feet from occupied building. A case of those in charge not knowing their own law.

    In town they sell the little pop-pop kind. Go next town over and you can get the BOOMERS, the kind that rattle your windows.
    Younger son went to get a few of those last night and was told you have to have a special license, go see the guy over at the table.
    So he goes and asks about what kind of license,"You over 21? Got a valid drivers license for this state? Got $5.00?" Yes, yes and yes.
    Sit down and fill out this form. 5 minutes later he had his special license, and some really good BOOMERS !!!!

    this is where we ended up after the forced exodus from the old place

    keep trying to get a bit ahead to be able to move, but never quite enough income after rent, utilities, food...

    have i mentioned in the past 5 minutes how much i detest cities?

    We typically do not do any fireworks on July 4. Too many others in neighborhood that does so if we want to watch, we just grill, play cards and watch the neighborhood. However, my oldest grandsons (age 5) birthday is close to the end of August and each year I kinda keep the neighbors entertained for an hour or so with some big fireworks on his birthday. There is a place in Missouri about 100 miles from me called Boomland (it seems they are open year round) that I will make a run to and stock up with some nice fireworks.

    This year we have a new neighbor next door. Our lots are 4 and 5 acres each. For some reason, he has decided that he only needs to mow about 15 ft on each side of his driveway and about 50 ft around his house. Keep in mind his house is a half-million dollar house. So his front yard is now about 2-3 ft tall. I just hope I don't set his front yard on fire. Younger guy I would guess about 33-36. Seems nice enough but I do believe he and his wife may lean toward the left quite a bit. I better talk to him about my annual end of August event and make sure he is cool with it and doesn't cause a stink.

    I live out in the country here in the Piney Woods region of East Texas, but we could hear lots of fireworks going off until about 1am this morning. Sure glad we had a nice rain the day before; somewhat took the worry out of woods and pastures being set ablaze by dummies with explosives! [:D]

    I live next to the res. The Indians sell fireworks year round since they aren't subject to the NV state laws. It is still illegal to set them off if you are off the res, but folks still do it. Most didn't this year. The desert is so dry, any sparks could burn off thousands of acres. The only exception is if you go way out on one of the salt lakes. Then there is nothing to catch fire. Fortunately, the local stock car track puts on a big show every year, so my wife and I just drove over there and parked right under the show. Not bad, for free. [:D]

    Illegal to set of anything that goes more than 10 feet above the ground here, but my neighborhood always looks like a commercial display including handgun fire.

    Went to Denver, saw a Rockies game, which they actually won, and then a big display. All American 4th.

    they were still going off sporadically until 3-4 am and started up again last night with whatever they had left

    It was quite here on the 4th. But see we lost a home to it last night. I think most folks in this area like me had to work Thursday so I think the real problem will be tonight and Sat Night.

    Think I will go out and mow one more time.
