just saw a good welfare fight.........
proves that once you think your entitled, you will fight to keep it. was sitting on front porch having beer cooling off, kept hearing this swish/zip sound by my head. finally looked down and saw what it was,, hummingbirds, we have a feeder with 4 spouts, and there were five hummingbirds. four of them seemed to have greenish bellies and the fifth one had a yellowish belly, sorry yoshy [;)], the green ones didn't want the yellow one to have any, and let me tell you those little suckers have a temper! they kept running the yellow one off right past me, almost sounded like bullets passing me. two beers later the poor little yellow guy still hasn't got a drink and the feeder is almost empty... and yeah he ain't getting no beer either!

very territorial about feeders...migrate thru area of our lake place...two varieries...one winters on gulf coast while another bulks up when getting to coast then files across sw to mexican coast ..about a 20 some hour flight...either makes it or drowns... 0 -

My wife has 2 hummingbird feeders that hold over a quart each and she has to refill them every other day. There are even more this year than the last couple of years.
Sometimes they get along and don't fight. Here 6 of them are perched and having a drink.

We feed them here too.Glad to see them back.Went for several years and never saw a hummingbird,blue bird,and very few hawks.Looks like the DDT ban has helped them. 0 -

I call the deer, squirrels and birds that feed in my yard communists. Deer can be pretty competitive for food, and down right nasty to a younger doe that's not part of their group. Just a bunch of free grazers. 0 -

My wife also feeds all the other animals in the woods behind our house.
Speaking of nasty, this is one nasty little girl that will kick anybody's rear end that gets near her and her baby's corn. The bucks that come around she sends them running for their lives! She might be little but she's tenacious!!0 -

Hummingbirds are A Holes. Those little turds will fight over a flower when there are dozens of others all around.
They wouldn't have to eat so much food if they didn't expend so much energy...fighting over food. But it is fun to watch them fly. Best pilots on the planet. [:D]0 -
