Hornady collett bullet puller

Is there a trick to setting this up? I keep bending the shoulder in and have yet to pull a single bullet with it. I'm using this on 5.56, just wondering if there is a trick to using it propelry? Thanks

  You pull the handle UP to pull the bullet after you tighten the collet down on the bullet, gripping it just above the case.

  Just watched a video on Youtube that seemed to clear things up. Makes me feel like a bonehead now!
