Some walk away mad others like you evade giving a honest answer or resort to name calling to avoid the issue. I will ask you once more in a simpler form. If you had to choose between supporting Israel or supporting the U.S. which would you choose ? Do you have the courage to say Israel or are you going to evade giving a answer like every other Jew I've run into. I think you are mixing your metaphors. Yours are'greater good' examples, davej's question attempts to establish guilt or blame without regard for benefit or injury. I.e., the prosecutor's trick question.
One thing they both have in common is that they ignore any third choice. E.g., with the train example, throw the switch half way thereby derailing and thus stopping the train.
DaveJ's question, since it is totally hypothetical, could have an infinite number of outcomes, all of which would be hypothetical as well. Yours too for that matter.
