new dog taking some getting used to...........
we got a new "pup" for the grandkids few weeks back, or so we thought. took her to the vets friday for checkup and shots, turns out she is a year old or better. she was not what the lady told us in the add, she said she was a chiuhaha? / boston mix. turned out she is about the size of a red fox only brindled and is as shy and skidish as can be, she was a rescue and must have had a terrible time of it. she hadn't made a sound except to growl at a deer once in the backyard then run back into the house, she won't go out if there are deer or turkey in the yard.
grandkids wanted to go to my sons last weekend so we took her and drove up, he has two rescues and two cats, needless to say she wouldn't leave my side, either she was at my heels when I would walk or she would jump up and set behind/beside me on the couch and growl when his dogs got close. she never really got into a fight, just didn't want to socialize with the dogs or cats.
since we have gotten home she has barked at almost everynoise this old house makes, when furnace kicks on, washing machine, dishwasher and for some reason has become almost a lap dog with either me or my granddaughter. she has claimed a spot in the backseat of my truck, she doesn't seem to like the front, would much rather I chauffer her around, she gets a ride to school everyday to pick up the grandkids, and will soon be I am sure spoiled worse than them. haven't had a dog for about 6-8 years so it is taking some getting used to on both sides......

Takes lots of time, patience and love but she will come around.

Hang in there. No telling what horrors this poor doggie has been through. Good for you for rescuing this mutt.

Larry is talking about getting another one.....we have two now. We love our dogs and I cannot imagine a day we will not have some sort of dog in our lives. You are a sweetie for taking such great care of that puppy. I'm sure she will be spoiled beyond belief. I'm happy for both of you....furbabies are great.

We adopted a ginger tom from rescue and a Pit puppy from horrible conditions, freezing to death in back of a pickup truck bed. Both are doing great, and they've taken to each other. What a sight. You're a good man, hillbille

we have taken in our share of unwanted dogs and cats
a few from the dog pound . but they all seem to realize your there forever home and not going to miss treat or abandon them .
we have a pound hound we have had for about 4 or 5 years she is a great dog but the shelter lied there butt off ( I know they based it what the previous owner told them) she is older and was not "fixed " as they told us , but we did have it done
it took a long time to keep her from flinching if we moved our hands toward her ( I am guessing she was hit many times ) she was untrusting but friendly . she has gotten past that but she sleeps with me ( we have two other dogs that stay in my wifes bed room at night because the husky just never made friends, she wants to be the alpha and that does not set well with Macie LOL ) lot of nights she wakes me up whimpering / almost like crying . I will wake her and reassure her she is OK . I can not image what she must have went thru it obvious she has nightmares . and of course she has the normal chase barking dreams most all dogs do . she is friendly non aggressive ( not counting her and huskys battle of being queen )
I guess to wrap it up and skip the storys give her some time it may take a little or a lot but she will come around

I spent 2 months with a senior cat I adopted she wound not come out of the hide she had in the basement I would go sit with her and talk, give her treats while she bat my hand I made a blanket bed and would take nap she started to come lay with me one day I saw the little face looking from top of basement stairs the rest is history😻

Dog or cat, whatever effort it takes, they'll repay you 100 fold in love and loyalty. Good on all you folks!
