He is confused
He wants in, then he wants out. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I can't let him in and out all night long.

I think he was like a kid that had played too hard and couldn't settle down, or he's afraid of the dark. He was outside all day yesterday playing with the other pups. He just couldn't settle down.
I finally turned on the deck lights to see if that would help. And it did. The pups went into the doghouse and Rodney followed them into it.
Got up this morning to check on them. Everyone has been playing in the mud that was restored by the latest round of rain last night.

Get one of these. They let you throw a ball quite a ways and pick it up without touching it. You can use tennis balls or they have whistling balls, erratic bouncing balls and even "glow in the dark" balls if you've got a place to throw them.
When we were keeping my son's high energy dog she would come get me frequently to go outside and get some exercise.

Energetic dogs need to burn off energy before you can teach them much.

He is outside all day, running and playing with six beagles, one blue heeler and four goats. Can't exercise him much more than that.
