Well Smitty all I can say is that I’m thankful June is out of pain now and hopeful that you can hang in there and start to get some rest and start to heal. I can’t imagine what you have endured. Just know that June did all the way to the end.

Thank you all you have been really great for me during this terrible time.

We were here by ourselves during June's battle with cancer and being able to talk to you all kept me from going insane from time to time. I would get a chance to check the forum when June was asleep late at night and it was comforting to see what was going on which was a great escape for me to get away from the reality here even if just for a few minutes.

June has always said that she wanted to be cremated so when they came to the hospice center today to take her away I couldn't just let her go by herself. I followed the hearse/van to the crematory for one last goodbye. The guy that run the place came out and talked to me and I went in with him and made all the arrangements while I was there.

I picked out a nice marble vault and urn combination to bury her in. He said I could pick her up day after tomorrow. He said they would engrave her name and date of birth and the date she deceased on the marble vault/urn. I picked out a Roman type lettering instead of cursive. June would say I spent too much on it but it's nice and I didn't want to put her in something plain. Plus it's a urn / vault combination which means I only had to buy one instead of buying them separately.

I'll make arrangements to have a moral service in a few weeks in order to give our kids time to get their schedules to where they can all be there in Knoxville where I will bury her in our old family plots in the Asbury Cemetery near my Mom's house on French Broad River.

My great-grandfather bought a large section of that cemetery toward the end of the 1800s and there's still about seven or eight plots left for our family members.

June and I always enjoyed taking trips together over the years and now we'll make one more trip together as I take her ashes to be buried in Knoxville Tennessee where we both grew up. They asked me if I wanted her ashes delivered to the funeral home and I said no she's going with me.

Well I'm exhausted as I sit here in my recliner next to June's empty hospital bed in our living room. I've caught myself a couple of times checking to see if she was asleep and she's not there. It's really strange and sad.

Good night all and thanks again.

    Greg
